We changed the entire forum based on input from a guy that's been here 6 months and isn't subscribed? And Beaker? Change it back.
I like the new unread feature. Better tracking for me. I don't read everything and will ignore uninteresting posts anyway just like I ignore those forums I never read.
If you go into the older threads of many sites, you'll find linked images no longer showing from those posts. It really aggravates me to find a 5 year old instructional "how-to" on a site where the poster used a series of pictures that were "self-explanatory" to show how to do something tricky only to find dead picture links and no useful explanation.
You could implement the tag so that it automatically fetches the pictures and makes an attachment. Of course that would require some more space management as the storage for images could get bigger as people don't realize that uploads happen and you can't really blame them for it. FWIW, I do not consider [img] links stealing. The websites I run might use some advertising that I miss out on. But with the [img] links I get feedback that I like. In a different online personality I do photography. With the [img] links I get a count of how many people watched a picture and in many cases I get the referrer URL, which points back to a discussion forum thread where somebody references my picture. I like that. (to make that explicit, I do not get the identity of a forum user when that happens, just the thread that the picture is contained in) Overall I think that the concern about stealing bandwidth is not a very important one (anymore). Some websites block those [img] things, doing that is an option for everybody who doesn't like the stealing.
I'd be surprised if this hasn't already been mentioned, but I would eliminate politics/religion entirely. It's just not a good idea to discuss it whether you have an internet forum, or a barber shop. No one will change anyone else's mind, and it just creates hard feelings. I don't currently have access to that subforum, but someday when I subscribe, I don't want to wander in there out of boredom and suddenly be disappointed in members whom I had thought were like-minded and reasonable in other sections.
Nader is a well-known name in politics, which made it funny that someone with the username Nader was suggesting elimination of the P&R subforum. All the best, Andrew.
WTF- why are the posts that you already viewed still in dark font???? Now I have no idea which is new since the last time I was on. This sucks, change it back.
I'm on it, Fearless Leader! Chris, I saw this suggestion by Dud and endorsed it to Rob via PM: The problem I was having was that, like Dud, every time I looked at a PM via Tapatalk (viewed directly, not through UserCP) or logged in to see one specific update, the forum would mark everything in the UserCP as read and take them off the displayed list. So far, the settings change has fixed that issue. Just before logging out, if you click on the Quick Links dropdown in the menu bar at the top, the third option down is "Mark Forums Read", which will clean everything up on exit. The settings previously did this automatically on logout from any session (no matter what you looked at or didn't look at) but it was forcing it on folks that didn't want it, so now it's an opt in with two clicks instead. How's that? All the best, Andrew.
As far as I'm aware, vBulletin has it as a global admin option and it cannot be personalised for each user or left as a user environment option. Maybe Rob can confirm? Previously, nobody had the option to opt out of the automatic Mark Forums Read (no way to avoid it happening) but now everyone has the option to either leave it alone during a quick log in and out, or to opt for manually marking everything read as they leave. There's more choice this way. All the best, Andrew. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
