2017 Lamborghini Aventador S revealed with 730bhp | Autocar Same power in BHP as F12B and recorded times as TDF 0-60, top speed higher with a V12 6.5ltr
I was quoting your own terms, maybe too bold if you'd like, but my reasoning is Ferrari is no longer the brand with a single engine spec for each model. Nothing new, it was long discussed with the intro of the Lusso T. It somehow diminishes the value of the V12 Lusso and to some extent to the brand. Indeed it is subjective and Ferrari's brand name is still standing strong, they're on top of their game, etc. Maybe not yet for the F12M, but they've already started the trend so in the future I can see optional downsizing through the whole range.
I cannot see what they would gain dropping a V8 into the F12. It's the top of the range flagship car and totally synonymous with being a V12. As already pointed out, with the Lusso, they could argue they are creating a different drive, sportier and lighter for those that don't need to drive in ice and snow, with the F12, it would just be slower and sound rubbish. Where's the benefit?
Beautiful. My coworker just asked me why I was watching that sketch since 3 min "You can't understand"
This always makes me chuckle the 4 seater is the only configuration to have always featured in the Ferrari road car range. It is treated as such emotionally by Ferrari, with impeccable provenance and its no (Fiat/Maserati) California !!!
I don't think that's quite correct, with all due respect. First production 4 seater was the 1959 250GTE. There was no 4 seater for almost 3 years between 1989 when the 412 finished and 1992 when the 456 was launched (excluding the mid-engined V8 Mondial). In contrast, the 12 cylinder coupe/berlinetta has an unbroken run starting with the 166 Inter in 1948 IIRC.
I stand corrected sorry - guess was comparing to massive gap between Daytona and 550. Hardly fair to say the V12 two seat is the daddy.
You should've read my post all the way further down. The FF and Lusso are not what the 612 and its ancestors were before it. This is agreed upon by just about everyone, including the factory. Secondly, you're incorrect - as pointed out above. *chuckle*
Splitting hairs re 612 to FF being different series. But if it's that important to point score my further apologies.
Totally agree (and please don't apologise) - the mid-engined period from 1973-95 meant a big gap in front-engined V12 2-seaters. Interesting that only Lambo is now left with a mid-engined regular production V12 - one which never sat comfortably with practicality expected of a GT.
Tim, it's precisely this line of thinking that makes me feel we're all accepting the Lusso T because, yes, they've sort of reasoned it and differentiated it enough, and we're not accepting a hypothetical V8 F12 (or next gen V12) because no, it's flagship, we simply can't think of it until, oh well, the factory launches it and they use reasoning like lighter, some tech downgrade, maybe just a TTV8 vs a hybrid N/A V12, a different experience... I don't know, whatever they might think of to offer a slightly different product that by the way it's cheaper and has taxing advantages in some places. So for me it would be same story as with the Lusso T: hardly anyone felt there was a gap to cover, instead they created the gap and the cover simultaneously. It *might* happen again eventually with a future front engine 2-seater V12, only that time I will not be shocked as I was with the Lusso T.
I'm with you with your line of thinking. By the way, Ferrari will be paying the most fine for not meeting the EU CO2 mandate so more pressure to drop V8 into the engine bay. Ferrari, Aston Martin fail to meet EU CO2 mandates, face fines
Anyone hear about a possible private showing in Italy in early February? I've been told a time and place but not sure if it's legit.
I think you make an interesting point. Speaking for myself: I would agree with Tim's point because I look to Ferrari for NA V12 excitement when it comes to a 2 seater. But you might be right that others might not be so fixed in their judgement. I guess to me the 4 seater just doesn't have the same prominence, so I look at it like if they want to make an experiment, that is the place to do it. Doing it on the Flagship: near blasphemy!
On any flagship product you never go cheap. Bugatti isn't offering a w12 instead of a w16 to save taxes or make it 'more affordable'. The GTC is Ferrari's take on the SUV trend. More space, a boot and the option to take 4 people. A V8tt does makes sense in that car. Not in it's flagship model. Talk about brand devaluation....
I think the same sometimes ... between Ferrarichat and Pistonheads I do spend an awful lot of time on car forums ...
And there suggestion of 27 Jan for "factory" clients - i.e. those like me without a proper dealer relationship but deal with Maranello directly because of Classiche/racing etc. Nothing confirmed yet.
No, it seems to be particular days for particular regions mine is the afternoon of 7th or morning or afternoon of the 8th.
