    Yeah, no doubt.

From launch it is difficult to beat 918 (that AWD is too good) to the 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile.

Rolling start which is more applicable to track driving (say from 40 to 50 mph it should be a little different story).

No. Long before that. The 60-100mph time is typically better in most tests. Unless you're talking about when it actually starts pulling back after a launch.

Just to point out, the comments say that Z06 was on Michelin slicks and had GSpeed cooler. And the P1 laps were 2up on worn tyres according to comments.

    Impressive nonetheless!

What's his opinion on the 918 at COTA?

Oh yeah, I know. Not an indictment of the p1. Just how driver can also make a difference. The driver of the Z06 said he was shocked at the 918 when he was driving his c5 z06 at the last track day in that the 918 couldn't out accelerate him. (I believe that goes to the whole "hot lap" theory).

There are a bunch of track rats at COTA that have access to all these cars and know how they have tested/driven out there. They are all in agreement that 918 doesn't do well at all at COTA for some reason . (for all the other watchers of this thread...one of my previous posts was that many people drive these cars at tracks around the globe (test drivers, owners, etc. and they just don't come on here to give their comments).

The thread would die pretty quickly if some of the owners/drivers of these cars actually came to give their comments. (especially the ones who own all 3 and know what to do with them).

I believe what our favourite member is saying is that he is the one and only judge for any claims and will need to be employed at all tests by anyone to ensure those Krauts and Italians don't cheat those plucky brits. I note the McLaren is always 2 up and ALWAYS on old tires, **** it must go through tires so quickly because it is ALWAYS the case lol. Once he is employed as the only judge of what is quicker or not he will be able to ensure that he witnesses every moment the P1 is on track so they can't go sideways or do anything else that makes it "Three stooges" or "They were clearly drifting the P1" or "Autocar cannot test properly" ad infitum and we know we will get a fair and balanced assessment of the cars relative qualities, especially the only one that doesn't cheat...... Merry xmas all.

    I can't buy that it's that slow. A C5 Z06? 400hp? Even a 918 with a dead battery should be beating that surely?

ask him on his i/g. he probably has it modified but his exact words to me was "I was shocked". (note: i didn't ask him about it...he just somehow volunteered the info to me).

josh snowhorn is another track rat at COTA and has also stated that 918 doesn't do well at all at COTA.

If people really wanted to study the situation then they don't just stop at what the video shows... They actually will take the time to read/find the comments that testers gave. That's probably the responsible thing to do don't you think? He is correct with his p1 COTA comments because the driver did state that.

Fair enough but we have heard from one member for perhaps 50 - 100 pages how the 918 and La Ferrari cheat while the P1 is often driven by drivers that are crap because the P1 is clearly better than the others. Even when this flies in the face of logic because they are often driven by the same person, we are told there are extraneous reasons that explain the 918 beating the that don't equate with it being better than the P1, usually because they cheated. These have included a blow by blow breakdown of the Grand Tour that included him pointing to the footage that showed the P1 sliding around a corner and ended with him braying for the full footage of all three cars lap times and our friend calling the hosts the "Three Stooges". Elsewhere I believe his theory is that we should now be only comparing the P1LM to the 918 Weissach despite the latter being well down on power etc. It would all be very boorish if it wasn't so funny.

Quick footnote on the absolute horsecrap Salomondrin dishes out.

    Tuned 570S + ~50whp.

1:29 - Same whp as a stock 675LT, 112kg heavier, less downforce, 225+285 Corsa tyres (vs 235+305 Trofeo Rs on 675LT) and 1:20.91 (4:08) on Thermal Club. 2s faster than Salomondrin's goon in LT.

McLaren 675LT Fabspeed ECU Tune - Fabspeed Motorsport

    1. Porsche 918 Spyder James Sofronas 1:17.18 887 / 1640
    2. Ferrari LaFerrari James Sofronas 1:18.46 963 / 1585
    3. McLaren P1 James Sofronas 1:18.82 916 / 1490
    4. Dodge Viper ACR (Mk V) James Sofronas 1:21.86 654 / 1548
    5. Honda NSX (Mk II) Graham Rahal 1:21.90 581 / 1767
    6. Dodge Viper ACR (Mk V) Alec Udell 1:21.92 654 / 1548
    7. McLaren 675LT Alec Udell 1:22.62 675 / 1328

Now you see why I hate Salomondrin's times.

Hey Apolo, I guess they gave you a better car than everyone else. Congratulations you lucky SOB. Whoopsy, you should ask for your money back, you even ordered the WP which is, as we now know, directly comparable to P1 LM. Even though Porsche claims the WP is a second or two faster to 300 kph, they didn't tell anyone about Apolo's beefed up version lol.

You also have to love Lieven/Myocroft telling Apollo he is wrong and his own data is not representative (THINK ABOUT THE AUDACITY OF THAT CLAIM FOR A SECOND!). I guess my friends VBOX time showing his 918 doing 0-200 kph in 6.9 seconds (6.89 seconds to be exact Lieven, since you love this stuff) and 0-300 kph in 18.5 seconds is completely incorrect as well since that would only be about second or so behind the LAF and P1. Or did he just get an extra fast one too??

Sorry but you are wrong, I have the graph I will post up later, its exactly the speed above when the P1 and Lafa start to reel the 918, but by then the 918 has pulled out to much of an advantage for the others to catch up before the 1 mile marker...

All times done independently via race logic.

I have raced many times along side P1s and Lafa at V-Max won every single one.

His data is accurate, but his car, for one reason or another, is not representative of other 918s, unless you think a stock 918 hitting 210mph in less time than a LaF is normal, since better initial acceleration would have given him less time to reach that speed.

Show me one single test, or selection of tests, where a 918 has matched or beaten a LaF or P1's acceleration above 100mph?

P1s have made an indicated 200mph in 20s in less than ideal conditions 2up.

Magazine test show the 60-100mph and 100-150mph times for the P1 and LaF to be better.

SCD's tests with his own cars also showed the same above 100mph.

    http://www.caranddriver.com/features/the-2015-porsche-918-spyder-is-the-quickest-road-car-in-the-world-feature

    60-100mph
    918 - 2.7s
    P1 - 2.1s

Your car is just very unusual. And yes, it would destroy most 918 WPs Jo Sta7.

Ha Ha, I have Hot Lap, Mk2 on mine...

Jesting aside, if I am completely honest from the conversations that I have had with Jurnos, I don't think that they understand just how the system's work to their optimum on a 918.....The Autocar, Ducati one is perfect example, they ran the batts down and tried to put a time in. Then go on to say that it hit a wall at 165mph, look at my video above its still pulling like a train at that speed. Just that I ran with 80% charge in Batts.

But explain why no other 918 has got within less than 4mph of you at Vmax200. What about C&D, did they run the batteries down first too? Where's your evidence Autocar did it?

I went head to head against the 918 at shift sector (wasn't a clean start so wasn't much to learn from it). Ahead of time I thought 918 would be way ahead and I might be able to catch it at the finish line (1/2 mile). After the event I wasn't so sure that I would catch it by the 1/2 mile but I would catch it soon after.

918 was consistently trapping 172 to 173 at half mile. I was all over the place but got to 179 (which is what I thought I was going to do).

Anyways, since it seems people are interested...here is the results from an event in Florida. Same guy owns p1 and 918. It was a mile event

    102 - 2014 McLaren P1 - Reed Knight
    149.673 - 1/2 Mile Certification Run
    161.498 - Standing Mile Run
    199.583 - Standing Mile Run

    103 - 2015 Porsche 918 - Reed Knight
    169.268 - 1/2 Mile Certification Run
    190.669 - Standing Mile Run
    190.468 - Standing Mile Run

Essentially what my friend has told me. Best time he's done in the half mile in his 918 is 176 and best time in his P1 slightly above 180. Although his standing mile runs trap speed is above both of your examples. I'm assuming that comes down to the quality of the surface. Lots of environmental factors can slow a car down above 180 mph.

yeah our road surface was pretty bad (all of us had to deal with it though).

I was amazed at how consistent the 918 was though. p1 (race vs non race mode), using DRS in race mode, etc. gave different results. 918 is great from launch but p1 keeps fighting for traction. P1 does much better from a rolling start in a head to head type race.

With launch control and DCT? The speed trap beam is in the same place regardless of where you brake.;)

And adding 4mph at that speed requires very significant distance.

Do you have a youtube video that explains exactly why it is a disadvantage to initially accelerate faster than the other car in a race to 210mph?
