As far as the electric car goes I'll say this: Ferdinand Porsche invented the hybrid electric car in 1903 for Austro Daimler. It's 114 year old technology. Hydrogen will someday let you have the 12-cylinder sound with no pollution, but Big Oil will never let out those military-only technologies. JWW
Get real.... How do you make hydrogen without the input of 'other' energy? Oh, and what 'other' energy is it that you purport to be pollution free? "Big Oil" is a fabrication used to fool the simple mind. Cap and trade is a ruse put out by the NWO to control both your mind, your country's sovereignty and your money. Hot button turned off... Vincenzo
He didn't say "make hydrogen". It's hydrogen engines. They exist, just costly to mass produce. Google BMW hydrogen 7
If I'm not mistaken that's the big problem with hydrogen, it's very expensive and also energy intensive to separate it. Also, if you think a conglomerate of big businesses from a big industry doesn't use its influence/lobbying (i.e. bribes) to alter policy, I think you're highly mistaken.
IC engine is older than 100 thats for sure. Alot of money has been made in the combustion engine biz since then, not so much if any at all "tesla stock not lookin good" in the electric car market yet. Thomas Edison drove an electric car in 1913 and they deemed it too costly to mass produce back then.
I'm guessing you fix ferrari's like I do for a Living? I'm guessing you have access to a large amount of invoices in your data base to compare the overall average costs? I do..
I do repair Ferrari and all makes and models. But to clarify, I am on the auto body side of repairs. I have owned TRs and maintained them at wholesale cost within my clients service departments and many other exotics. Those invoices are in a folder and with the new owners now. I have been working with my clients cars and my own passion for F cars for 17 years. I do not claim to be an authority regarding mechanical engineering. I have benifitted From the wonderful advice from Fchat members such as yourself and DIY threads that have saved me many dollars over the years (thank you)but only speaking from my experience with comparing my clients cars and my own which I do drive with little regard for mileage, 348/355 to TR/512TR maintenence the TRs have been more expensive to run. I will be forever learning and could be wrong in a larger arena of course. Maybe we could start a new thread on this topic.
TR , 348 and 355 are six of one half dozen of another when it comes to the major. The difference is the 355 WILL have cracked headers, valve guide issues and an interior that turns to gum, The 348 will have electrical gremlins and the interior will turn to glue.
This is exactly why I passed over the 355 in favor of the 550 a few years back. I wouldn't touch a 355 that isn't a driver, serviced, with aftermarket headers. Those cars aren't for sale that often.
if this is a debate between a 355 and a Testarossa, then I would take the 355. It's the devil, but one I know.
Not to mention if you have a F1 and the system fails and it becomes more cost effective to convert to manual than fix the F1 system. Don't have that expense with the TR either.
Issues when fixed once are good for basically the life of the car. People act like valve job/headers/interior is done repeatedly or at every engine out.
For me a Testarossa anytime before a 355. Not that I don't like the 355 but for the same money I take a TR.
I agree. The TR really got a bad rap for service costs, to a great degree from M Sheehan which are underserved. The bad part is when that crap is published enough there are a lot of shops very willing to help them live up to those expectations so it becomes many peoples reality.
I have been doing it since long before any of them were built and I disagree. TR, 348, 355 are very similar in routine service costs.
Either way my most favorite 80s Ferrari is the TR. and It looks as though they are coming down in value. soon another one may be mine and clock more miles on the odo.
That's why I said "when fixed". To be more specific, to fix these issues is not replacing with factory parts. (Except for factory steel guides I suppose) TR seems like an awesome ride. Would certainly be on board with owning one but don't think I will retire early owning that vs the 355.
Yes. Tubi are the best in my opinion. Retain the original 4-2-1 configuration and completely enclosed with a heat shield. Some cut apart the original headers and replace the melted tubes with higher grade stainless as well. If you used a header with no heat shield/blanket/coating I'm sure it could cook some parts. (Not something I would do).
