whenever a new model is introduced, this sentiment was inevitable..."take the badge off and it could be from any...". errr...I don't think so.

I agree, especially that stereotyping, which indicates the OP's own slanted bad taste from another person's perspective.

I absolutely disagree. I think the J50 is MUCH better looking than both 458 and F12.

Maybe you should count again...however it's not relevant if most agree or desagree with me, it's simply my opinion, that's all. As it was said by others, the 458 it's clearly a much more achieved design and a timepiece, the J50 it's about being exotic and looking spectacular and futuristic. The first one will stay in Ferrari history as a design that marked an era...the other..won't.
As for japanese "bad" taste, there are many many things that i love and admire on their culture, they have a sense of aesthetics that surpass europeans and americans in many ways but, with a very few exceptions, designing cars is not their strongest point, and clearly they have a diferent aproach to it, and most of the times i find the result unatractive.
I feel that the J50 design was somewhat influentiated by japanese taste, and IMO that didn't result in a clean design. It's not meant to be offensive, it's just the way i see things.

I think it has no sense to compare 458 with J50 simply because the 458 is a production car, while the J50 is a concept, very definitive, but still a concept.

There are many interesting solutions and innovations that surely we will see in the next Ferrari. For example the intention to read the muzzle differently, implement lights, parking sensors, cameras within a stylistic element.

I don't think that the design of this car is too influenced by Japanese's taste

Of course both models have diferent purposes, and the J50 being a special series was obviously going to be more "special" and diferent. But although one is a current series and another a special series, the base form wich they depart is the same...the 488 so i think we can compare both models (i spoke before of the 458 because it was the origin of the 488 design, the 488 is just an evolution of the 458, much like the 328 was an evolution from the 308). I agree with you that the J50 is and looks much more as concept car then a regular production car and being a very limited series i can understand and agree with that option, however, i believe that the end result should and could have been better then a 488, and to me it is not. I believe it´s very difficult to improve an original design, and if the original was very good, it will be almost impossible to do so. That's why most will agree the 458 was better then the 488.
The J50 is obviously very diferent from both, but you can still trace it's origins as you can see the front influence from the Sergio, but i think in the end, the car resulted in a mix of various parts and various designs an therefore it's not very clean and it looks too busy. You see some fine details but as a whole i don't think it works very well.
When i say i believe it was influenced by Japanese taste, e mean exacly this excess of small details, the overdone design and the excessive futuristc look.
However, i think the Ferrari inhouse design is also able to produce great things, the f12 is to me a masterpiece (i doubtb the m version will look as good), and both the sp TRS and the 458MM are very good looking cars.

    J50 during design process.
It's a screenshot I took from an video with Flavio Manzoni on the italian site quattroruote.it.

Hard to tell from that angle, but for me it seems like a closed version.

    Best regards

Looks like something out of Grand Theft Auto. Yknow, when they want to make it look like a Ferrari, but can't, so it kinda looks like one but definitely isn't.
