A public vote wrong ? Are you suggesting the US majority is also wrong for voting Trump ? ;)

Or the Brits for Brexit ??? Seems the common theme here is lets have a vote and because we don't like the result the voter/public must be wrong so we have to keep doing it until we get the result we like..

I am open-minded enough and I would have accepted many different results.

But Mansell as "the greatest one-time world champion," really ?

Well it wouldn't be Rosberg would it..!

Mario definitely worthy. But so are many others. Moss probably trumps them all - and he never won a wdc...

Phil hill. I had several short conversations with him back in the 80's. He was a super class act and humble man when you spoke to him.

Phil Hill became my instant hero when he won the first GP I ever attended at Spa in 61. He was WDC that year, after which his F1 declined.

But although Phil Hill was WDC, he didn't win many GPs, and most of his success was in sports cars, where he was a regular winner.

In endurance, he drove for Ferrari, Aston Martin, Ford and Chaparral, won Le Mans 3 times, Sebring, etc... At the Nurburgring in 66 and Brands Hatch in 67 were acquired against the Porsche and Ferrari factory teams on board a Chaparral.

Personality wise, he was a very humble gentleman as I found out chatting to him years later at Goodwood. He recalled his wins with modesty not taking all the credits, but mentioning the help from his co-drivers. A very pleasant man.

To be fair to Mansell he did display some big ballsy moments wheel-to-wheel with Senna and Prost - many of which would probably now invoke a penalty.
He definitely worked up a proper sweat enroute to his title.

That's another reason why I like him. He is well rounded driver like Jim Thorpe in a car
during a time when drivers died regularly. Humble man Huge attachments dying of old age not bursting into flame like Jim Clark (arguably the best driver to never win a WDC). Phil Hill was quite accomplished.

    Did I read that right?

Jim Clark was WDC in 1963 and 1965.

Jim Clark had a natural talent. Like some others, IMHO Surtees, Stewart Lauda, Prost, Senna, Schumacher. And many I didn't mention.

I suspect an Italian poll may have rendered the same result. They loved The Lion !

This poll is hilarious, kind of like listening to the race reviews on the BBC podcast, you would be hard pressed to know if there were other drivers that weren't English in the race. Mansell, really, whatever. Doesn't BBC stand for British Bias Certainly?

Not so surprised,he was totally fearless,he got there the hard way from absolutely nothing.

For me though Hunt was the best in and out of the car.Great guy.
