My understanding is that one 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR racecar ended up in private hands. The V-12 car was built for the FIA-GT season in 1997 and won at Suzuka. It was chassis 0006. I think history has been very kind to the car and it is probably more appreciated now than in period.

I saw the car in person at a Porsche Owners Club event at Auto Club Speedway (Fontana) in May 2006. More history and photos here: http://wp.me/p6R6hC-oz

Here's the question - where is the car now? I'm not looking to impose on a current owner who wishes to remain private, but wouldn't mind getting another look at the car. I haven't been able to find anything on the car's ownership or location of recent.

Where did it go and where does it live? I posted this in the racing sub-forum and someone there thought it might be in LA, so that's why I'm putting this in the SoCal forum.

    Any knowledge? Thanks.

Last I heard (several years ago) it was in Camarillo or Santa Barbara... don't know much more, sorry.

Montecito was my understanding, but someone told me it was at a hangar in Camarillo recently as well.

I saw it, and have photos of it, from the Rodeo Concours in 2003. That was the first & last time I saw it.

Apparently it was sold at a Christie's auction in August 2000 for $1,051,000 - I believe the sale was in Los Angeles:

If it was purchased locally in 2000, shown at Rodeo in 2003, taken to Fontana in 2006, etc. it would make sense if it is still in the area.

Certainly not conclusive, but the Zonda that was with it in my photos at Fontana in 2006 was spotted in a garage at an estate in Point Dume that was up for sale. If it was there at one point, it would make sense to move it elsewhere (such as to an airplane hangar) if the house was sold or rented.

The hunt continues but I have faith...

I know the owner of the MBZ and the owner of the Zonda aren't the same guy, the MBZ lives in Newbury Park.

Never would've guessed that place since it's mainly apartments and mobile homes, but I could see myself living like that to get a car like that. :)

Huh? Dos Vientos is one example I believe is technically in Newbury Park and has some nice houses in which to stash nice cars....

This one isn't kept in anyone's house - though that would make for about the coolest ever conversation piece in the living room.

The owner has storage facility in an industrial park to house his car collection. The photos in this old Mike Sheehan ad were taken inside and you can catch some glimpses of the CLK GTR, as well as spare bodywork for the car hanging up on the wall.

Thanks much Erik. Great knowledge and link. As I mentioned in the other thread, thanks much for the contributions. Appreciate people with knowledge and interest participating. I've learned a few things and been reminded of a few things that I knew but apparently misplaced in my memory banks.
