they arent similar things though Mike the ferrari was a natural progression bb 512 > bb 512i whereas the FI5000QV wasn't an "improved model" over the downdraft but instead a workaround to get the car legal in the USA and at the same time most everywhere a "better" and more powerful model was available
One of the most disturbing things during driving, reflections of this window in the mirror, I hated this.

Just this one. At the risk of being redundant, I'm happy to explain that the car's color is actually called Bordeaux Speciale. It is essentially a tinted version of PPG 75006, which as used in 1986 was Ferrari's Prugna Metallizzato FER 306/C, but with the base paint was tinted with gold & brown.
Its been brought to my attention that the next generation is revering our favorite variant of the Countach via Forza Motorsport's offerings. That is pretty cool! We were recently discussing factory side-skirts: here is a late 1987 car with early single-strake side skirts in Japan, a rare application. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Which German-registered Downdraft is this? Spotted with what I assume to be Düsseldorf registration. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
it has the power dome but when you look in the engine bay its the qv CID engine.. also the funky side skirts.. i still use this car the most in the game.
Indeed its only a game so its far from perfect! A nice thought though that the external representation of the Countach chosen was the Downdraft. I think someone was a little lazy when it comes to the representation of the engine, they could have easily gotten it right, the power dome is there but more shallow and wider than reality, and I agree, the side-skirt representation is off.
Microsoft's Forza group is here in my backyard. They used my buddies 88 1/2 to scan for the game. They then modified the body with scans from the power dome cars, hence the fuelie engine. Mike
I really want to contact Turn 10 studios do to a very silly mistake they made with this car. When you open up all compartments on AutoVista in the game, the car has a fuel injected Countach engine instead of the Downdraft carbureted version. Below are some photos I took in the game. I really wish there was a version for the smooth side skirts. EDIT: Just saw Mike's comment. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Raymond, Would you be able to explain further, from my understanding and reading i have done the factory angled the rear window 3 degrees to stop its reflection from showing on the windscreen, unfortunately the book did not say if the rear window was angled up or down so i just assumed it followed the slight rack of the firewall, so are you saying it sort of gave an effect like when you look from one mirror into another so you get a multiple of many hundred images. I have only ever been lucky enough to sit in one of the Alpine cars in 1987 at a show in NZ, so probably did not notice reflections as i was two awe struck to notice. Image Unavailable, Please Login
On another site, Sovereign42 posted a priceless period image of one of the Bianco Perlato Downdrafts in a spin @ Quarry Corner at Castle Combe circuit. Surely not the same car that spun out at Goodwood as posted earlier! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Another awesome image by Sovereign42 of the same corner from a different angle of a Rosso Siviglia Downdraft going through it. This must be circa 1987 - 1989. I can't read the license plate to tell which one this is. Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is Vic Sawyer in 12878 before he put his VFS141 plate on it. He is interviewed at the event in a video now on YouTube saying he owns the car, but is banned from driving due to being caught speeding, so can only drive the car on the track, not the road! VFS141 was on a LHD Testarossa, which is probably what he was caught speeding in.
Yes as Raymond says, he simply went on to the grass, and continued. I had a similar experience in my Downdraft at Goodwood, I spun at considerable speed at the dreaded St Marys corner, and I remember going backwards at speed with plumes of blue tire-smoke billowing in my wake (which I could see out of the windscreen since I was going backwards!) as I thought: "this is going to be very expensive!" But thankfully I actually stayed on the track completing a 360 degrees spin, dropped into second, and continued. As I came around I could see I was being black-flagged which happened to anyone who spun or went off at the time.
Thanks for that confirmation! It would be great if you could post the video. Vic Sawyer really used FLA12878, I remember him quite well. With the exception of myself and perhaps Rick Lee, I can't think of anyone from that bygone era who still has a Countach Downdraft, although there may be others I don't know of.
