Embedded - Vic Sawyer comes up @ 18:56 onwards. From what I remember of him, as evidenced by this film, he basically drove this Downdraft as fast as it would go [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ptg9iItmLCQ[/ame]

Wow! I never knew the single strake were factory. I assumed there were some custom dealer oddity. Very cool.
I recall that about 10 years ago a French owner replaced the 4 liter engine in his LP4000S with a Downdraft 5.2 liter power plant. He was trying to sell the 4000S engine/transmission for years. Anybody know if the 4000S Downdraft is still around? Blue color if my memory serves me right ......
Yes it is, registred in Paris. http://www.allsportauto.com/photoautre/lamborghini/countach/s/1982_lamborghini_countach_s_18_sb.jpg
it has a QV engine cover, i saw it in Person about 10 years ago. here the same car at the Murci presentation: http://www.lambocars.com/images/countach/all/lp400s55.html Here with the original engine: http://www.allsportauto.com/english/lamborghini_countach_lp400_s.php Have yet to find one with the QV engine dome, here it is: http://www.thewatchersnetwork.com/supercars/images/Cars/Lamborghini/Countach/blue_lamborghini_countach_01.jpg and the rear with the paris-plate: https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4106/5070906113_b5ba9e382e_b.jpg
So here we have both the AGGRO and the A6GRO reg plates mentioned by Snapper7 in connection with the missing white/red car which once had the D421HYP number plate. One on a black car and one on a red car. I suspect that black car is the once white/red one vehicle you have been wondering about, Robert.
Blu Tahiti LP400S S2, well-known member of the Lamborghini Club France, saved by a Downdraft heart-transplant!
Alex, here you go, it sports a second series engine cover, 1987-1988. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just for the fun, here is the original engine cover of this french tahiti-blue LP400S2 Countach - when it was for sale in 2010, after the QV engine transplant... (FYI, asked price was 3500Euros at the time) Image Unavailable, Please Login
John, FWIW, D 421 HYP, definitely was Pearl white with a white interior (see below), whereas the white/red car of which you speak was in fact non-metallic white with a red interior, tow different cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
On the same subject, I realize that D 530 TFC (HLA12104) was in fact the white/red car we are speaking of. It became XOI 76. It was then repainted & re-trimmed black/black and registered A 6 GRD. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
In my opinion, this is the famed D 421HYP, which I think became 185 EXY. This is an image which Kaare posted a while back this image of the UK-registered D 590 GCD, this one would be another plate that Robb Capp's ZA9C005A0HLA12038 used later on. Image Unavailable, Please Login
