If you could choose two drivers from the current crop of F1 pilots, who would they be?

I'm going with Hamilton and Verstappen.

    Discuss . . . .

Alonso and ricciardo, at ferrari of course. We need alonso as we would undoubtedly give them a crap car, and ricciardo has the natural talent to wring it neck too

    Verstappen and Kimi

Verstappen for the championship, Kimi now (sadly) to back him up...Kimi proved how quick he still is but Verstappen is on a fantastic level and only getting quicker.

Verstappen/Vettel won't work. Verstappen/Ricciardo has worked so far but no championship on the line as of yet. It could get nasty that if it's a fight between them as they both have something to prove.

Verstappen Hamilton? Don't make me laugh...IMO Verstappen will be quicker and Hamilton will be so salty that's he's not top dog that he'll leave, like he already did after Spanish gp.

Vettel & Verstappen. Vettel is still in his prime plus he puts in the time with the car and mechanics. Launches are consistent during race day. Max shows "maturity" for his age while he is on the track....takes risks(Brazil 2016 in the rain!!!!) and has good defense on the track going into the apex and exit although that move on Kimi down the Kemmel straight at Spa was....dumb. Both are tactful.

Alonso and Verstappen, ideally in a Ferrari.

The two best drivers on the current grid IMO.

I still think Alonso is a wonderfully quick driver, but because I chose Hammy first, I didn't want their historical baggage. Verstappen still has a ton of upside to go . . .

Agreed. Which is why I think the Verstappen Kimi pairing would work.

Kimi never seems to get out of joint, he just goes out and does his job. Pairing him in what we must be honest are his waning years, with a raw talent like Mad Max in his early years... that would give Kimi enough motivation to keep pushing, and give Max an example to emulate as he takes over the lead spot.

With R.Brawn and M.Schumacher as team managers ?

That will work out just fine.

Controlling them in the car is a lot easier then once in it. Team managers don't control the pedals/steeringwheel.

    Cool thread.

I like Max a lot. He would be there. His teammate is a tough call as others point out. The only guy that is fast and wouldn't get in a pissing match with him is Kimi IMO.

I predict some serious crybaby moments from Ricciardo this year. Mark my words. I think that honeymoon is over. : )

Vettel and he already don't get along - wag of finger followed by jerk-off motion in return.

Alonso doesn't seem to get along with anyone.

Hamilton doesn't seem to get along with anyone.

...not sure who else it can be if you pick Max first.

For the sake of this discussion, don't worry about the budget.

I agree with this, except I'm a McLaren fan first and ferrari second.

My ideal would be them in a top McLaren fighting Hamilton and verstappen in equally as fast cars.

Any word on a title sponsor with McLaren? Also, does anyone know what Honda's financial contribution is? Is it just the engines or is it more $$$$ ?

Can't argue with you on this pairing, heck even Alonso thinks Ricciardo is the best driver on the grid right now and Max will continue to get even better! Like you I wish they were driving for Ferrari, hopefully one will in the future.

Brain says Seb and Fred. Heart says Max and Ham.

It's a Prost vs Senna or Lauda vs Hunt quandary

For Lewis&Max you might need an unlimited budget as you have to rebuilt two cars after every GP ;)

Not sure if I believe that Vettel and Max don't get on...yes some heated moments in the cars that got blown out of proportion by Dutch media and fans. Vettel has often spoken in admiration of the teenager, as has Verstappen. I think there's a mutual respect, fueled by the fact that the Ferrari just isn't a good car and Vettel trying everything to stick with Verstappen...it's more frustration at the car than Verstappen IMO.

If the RBR is a WDC capable car this year I do fear the good relationship with Ric and Ves is over. And that's a shame as I really enjoyed them getting along.
