Gentlemen, on the other thread many of you mentioned the F1 light blinking for minutes sometimes more. I haven't experience any blinking F1 light. So this morning I went to start the car paying close attention and again no blinking light of any kind. However, there was a high pitch noise from the engine bay that lasts about a minute or so and gone. I think the high pitch noise was from the pump motor building up hydraulic pressure. As far as the light, could it be a different model year thing? Any thought? May 1999 F1

In the past I never had to wait for warm up. The car goes into gear right away.

Check the bulb. Every F1 has it. You can select N or gears until the light goes off which means the system has built enough pressure.

Could the high pitch noise be the emission secondary air pump?

Yes, but the F1 pump is louder.

No it's not.If your car is running you should not hear your F1 pump over your secondary air pump when cold on start up.If you do then you have a problem.

I disagree, Mike. My car has no F1 issues at all.

I should also state I typically start the car after the F1 system is primed.

I should state, the high pitch noise only audible at start up and last less than a minute. Regardless, the car goes into gear even when the noise is present.

With the key turned to the second position, all the lights pop up and disappear except the F1. It doesn't come on at all.

As I stated, the system will reach pressure before the pump stops. Once primed, short stops require no or very short prime times.

Read what i said ..if the car is started cold you should not hear your F1 pump over the air pump.

My understanding is that you shouldn't start the car until the pump has stopped.

If you park your car in 1st - like you're supposed to - it means once the pump stops you can put it in neutral and start the car.

In my car the light stops flashing quite some time before the pump stops.

Steve, if the car is in N, you can start right away. I keep mine in N in my garage but keep in 1st when out.

Gear changes are allowed once the light goes off even if pump is still running. When light is flashing, you cannot select gears or N even if you try.

That's true Dave, but I'm curious why you would park the car in neutral when Ferrari specifically recommend against doing it?
There's a reason you get a loud, long "beep" in protest when you do this.

Steve, I park in N in my garage as it's flat, my hand brake works perfectly and N is required to start the car.

    Fair enough. Just curious.

You must be like Batman and have to leave the garage in an enormous hurry every day.

Haha! Well, I only save 1-2 seconds this way :)

Just a habit I guess as sometimes I will push my car forward or back a bit if working on it so keeping it in N helps for that ;)

Or when pulling tires to get at something it's easier to rotate so the pin is centered up top

This probably a dumb question. Where is the F1 light, between the tach and the speedo above the temperature gage?

Thanks guys! So that thing with the stick is the F1 light. No wonder I couldn't find it in the manual.

I guess if you drive your car daily, priming before start up is managable For us "posers" who drive it maybe once a month priming with engine off might just kill the battery.

Not really, not much time for the pump to prime ;)
