Long term, perhaps Volkswagen AG can purchase the Team, then race as Lamborghini.

 

Great shame, they have/had some great people working there,hope they can find employment soon.

 

Millions down the drain and virtually nothing to show for it. A casualty of this absurd formula.

Manor was the last victim (after Caterham and HRT) of the failed "low cost" F1 that Max Mosley wanted to create. They all did better than I expected, they never had a chance.

Mosley attracted them to F1 on the promise of a budget cap, which established teams refused to accept.
The fate of the "low cost" teams was sealed from that point. One by one they failed.

Also, Bernie's pay structure only concerns the 10 first teams in the ranking, making no provision for the others. Maybe Bernie only wanted 20 cars on the grid.

Those are points Liberty will hopefully address in future. Small teams may only play a minor role in F1, but the races need a full cast.

 

Yeah, surely VW which is facing $ billions of fines and law suits in many countries with the Diesel gate would be about to plough $ billions in F1!!

VW has even canned its WRC program where they were dominating.

 

Yet another example of P T Barnum's axiom...There's a sucker is born every minute!

 

Someone once asked Bernie Ecclestone: "How do you become a Millionaire in F1?"

To which Bernie replied straight faced as always:

"Start off as a Billionaire!"

F1 is expensive - It's no secret.

If you want to run a race series with the most technically advanced cars on the planet then it's going to cost mega money - New technology does not come cheap!

In Bernie's time, he has advised just about every single small team that came along with dreams of competing in F1 not to bother as it will most likely destroy their team and put them out of business.

Some took the advice and walked away, whilst others failed to heed the warning, thought they'd be all right, gave it a go, and then went out of business.

Manor F1 were well aware of just how expensive F1 was, and may have been tempted to enter the sport in the hope of a budget cap being introduced, but the reality was that a budget cap in F1 was always highly unlikely - And they should have suspected as much.

They've spent the last two years barely scraping enough money to put fuel in the tanks, trundling around at the back of the pack, getting lapped @ five times every race, going nowhere, and not really adding much to the whole F1 package.

Liberty Media may now want to implement a budget cap (Ross Brawn has hinted at such an idea as part of a plan to make F1 easier for the smaller teams to compete), but that may cause other issues, such as upsetting the manufacturers (possibly leading some to reconsider being in F1!).
