Apart from looking at the build sheet (which may be missing), is there any way to know on the spot whether a 599 came from the factory with the HGTE kit, as opposed to having been retrofitted at the dealer?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Interior on HGTE's are usually trimmed with alcantara as well as leather and were produced from 09 so if you see an 07/8 w HGTE it is not genuine.

Yeah, the HGTE at least in the US came with I think "Handling GTE" stitched on the seat. I'm sure someone would have added this after the fact but it would have been very expensive so I think if you see a car with this its a good indication it is the real deal. The best way would be the window sticker/ build sheet.

The HGTE with the factory fitted kit will be the one that increases in value the most in the next few years. Who would want the dealer fitted kit given the choice?

Doesn't the OEM fitted HGTE have carbon fiber trim that the dealer option does not?

Darius- You could order the HGTE without the HGTE stitching and with leather instead of alcantara. At least one owner here on FChat did that. Does not mean that is what happened with the one that sold, but it is possible.

In Europe, there were 2009 HGTEs. In the US, the HGTE option was first available on MY10 599s.

Ah. Thanks Terry. Yes, the RM Sotheby's blurb is not clear on what elements of the HGTE dealer-fit upgrade had been carried out.

Here in the US the only years for Factory HGTE were 2010-11. Also the seats have the alcantara and the HGTE logo on the head rest area. Plus what was said before, white dial and the center dash is carbon fiber where the Ferrari logo is.

Alcantara is fine in the right place. For example, I bought a car with 50.000 miles on the clock with the steering wheel and gearknob ALL alcantara.
It was impossible to clean and I ended up changing the wheel and knob for new ones. The problem with a "high touch" area of the car is that the alcantara absorbs sweat and "other bodily fluids" and cannot be cleaned effectively.

That's just the suspension parts. The complete kit was supposed to include wheels, mufflers, grill...
