Looking at their sell prices, you did well to keep your head. Am I correct in thinking the cars all have zero history with them? That does not help their onward values. They (and the gated 575, and other Ferraris) were expensive even for cars with perfect history.
Details, details, details Darius....you are so October 2016 ;o) I was bidding on the BMW 2002 (it has a FIA pasport and was well executed ) and guys kept going going going, for the life of me I could not figure it out...it ended in the 50's. So I checked VIN numbers today and it does not come up as a VIN that was raced from the start with Pedigree so even today I can not get my head around it. Sunday I thought I made an oversight and someone in the room had more info than I had....he just had deeper pockets.
I think the reason might be that the auction also were on sunday, and that it is a bit unlikely that they managed to update the list sunday evening after it was finished. This was a very unique auction with probably more people than expected... We will see tomorrow or later today if the list will be complete.
Here are the full results, courtesy of the press office. I recommend sitting down with a stiff grappa before digesting them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Having read the comments re the Auction, from what I read the prices are holding quite well Does any one have an actual Auction clearance rate. Looking at the 575 Manual that was a good price and the money spent on recommissioning and trim would be well worth the trouble. Very interesting comment on the Auction, Biggest ever recorded attendance at an "Around 1800 people have already registered to take part in the bidding (already the highest number ever recorded by RM Sotheby’s)" https://classiccartrust.com/2016/11/first-impressions-rm-sothebys-duemila-ruote-auction-preview/
Back at post #153, I highlighted a car that Copley Motorcars of Massachusetts had in stock. Advertised at $450k, it wasn't on their website for long. They now have another beauty in. Close to my ideal spec. 2004 Ferrari 575M Maranello | Copley Motorcars Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is this car new to the UK market? LHD German 575 manual, rosso/nero, no FHP, 10k miles, £210k, Speedmaster. It would be a pretty tempting buy at that price if it had FHP. Used 2003 Ferrari 575 for sale in Wetherby | Pistonheads
Ah yes. I kind of knew a car wouldn't get past Mogulboy! All these manual 575s are hanging around right now. Apart from the one in the RM Milan auction.
It's about time someone put their monocoque* on the auction block and tested the UK market. #NoReservemeansNoReserve * P.S. The Maranello is not a monococoque but I couldn't resist! Image Unavailable, Please Login
The manuals are a good bet, they just got bubbled up. They are not an L/E and there are a zillion 550 manual that are half the price and 90% the car so we wont be retiring just yet. But better than gold bars.
This one just sold. Cars For Sale - 2003 Ferrari 575M Manual - Fiorano Handling Package Nero Daytona Black, UK RHD, FHP, 30k miles, asking £200k.
Another UK RHD FHP car has appeared at Furlonger with Nero Daytonas in an otherwise Crema interior... Used 2003 Ferrari 575 for sale in Kent | Pistonheads 26k miles. Recently refurbished modulars. £200k Image Unavailable, Please Login
There are three RHD manuals and one LHD manual currently on Pistonheads, for sale in the UK. One of the former is the one I was told was sold a couple of weeks ago, still up there but now as POA. Mogulboy, were there more up before? Slades cars? If so they have either sold or been taken off sale.
Slades is something of an enigma to me. I have no current intelligence, alternative or otherwise. Perhaps you could swing by at some point in the Spring and take a look?
I would imagine that it's a combination of three things. First, some have indeed sold, maybe not for the prices asked, but sold nonetheless - they are great cars. Second, some were probably on SoR, vendors who may not perhaps have been especially keen to sell, but subscribed to the view that "anything is for sale at the right price", decided to see what the market really would pay for their cars and when they found out, decided not to sell. Third, some may have been taken off the market for the winter, with a view to being re-launched in the spring / summer. I see their list of 550s for sale is also somewhat depleted, probably for the same reasons.
You are forgetting another motivation. Putting your car up for sale to show the wife that you are taking action. I would put it up for sale at a very high ask and then 6 months later tell her no intrest in the market exists. All this is of course purely hypothetical post-truth fake news.
True, but potentially dangerous: somebody might surprise you by paying your price and then she would want you to spend the proceeds on jewellery, handbags, shoes, etc.!!
Did you perhaps source your car from them, John? I found this little video which gives an impression of the size of the operation in Penn but I believe that they have another offsite storage facility that drives the SoR operation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUPlcpiuj9k
No, I have never bought a car from Slades, though I do enjoy window shopping their stock. My 550 came from an independent dealer (no longer in business) near Weybridge - the last of four cars of various make that I bought from there over the years, and the 246 from Carrs, here in Exeter. Both were commission sales.
Yes, I need a destination for my review of the 488 Spider over Easter..although Slade's isn't far enough. Will need to add a dealer in Monaco to the itinerary. Any case, they should pay attention if I roll up in one of those. On a side note, I remember driving to a Porsche specialist out of town in my F512M when I was buying my 996 Turbo S. Red F512M rolls up and parks next to their GT2s/GT3s, etc in their car park; nobody even gave it a second glance. Tunnel vision? A while back I also gave my sister in law a ride to a BMW dealer where she bought her Alpina B3S in a then-new Giallo 599 HGTE I was reviewing. They paid attention.
Darius- Same goes for my 575M when I drove it to the local Mercedes shop when Jan's GL 550 was being serviced. Emptied out the place and everyone wanted to see the engine.
