Slow clap everybody. Slow. ****ing. Clap.

The little Frenchman needs to own up and acknowledge that he's in part responsible for the last 3 -terrible- years of F1. But he won't.

OTOH, Ross Brawn has the right idea: Make F1 sustainable for non manufacturer teams, that they can too run a profitable business and be competitive. Now THERE'S a man that actually understands the sport! I'd love it if a team like Sauber, Mclaren, Force India or Williams actually has a shot at a podium or even a win. The 1-2-3 we currently have (Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari), and the unlikeliness that the 4th best team actually get a shot at a podium basically means extraordinary cirumstances, is ludicrous. Sure I don't want it to be a bloody roulette either, but not extra ordinary circumstances.

Another good thing about teams being sustainable in F1: GP2 champions could actually graduate to F1 these days and we'd have fewer paydrivers such as Haryanto in F1.

Jean is right about periods of domination. Nothing else.

Well, it's a bit like Romain Grosjean, you know, Bas...as long as he is not winning, I'm saying that he is a swiss national. Should he win one day, I will then remind anyone that he is in fact French. As for Todt, when I read this, I tend to be reminded that his father was a Pole...so the French did not fail...

    This - exactly.

"Everything is fine. Do not panic. A team just went bankrupt? Again? Hey, how about my road safety initiative?"

I do a lot of mentoring with high school and college kids and give lectures at the schools and all that. The one thing that I share with them is one of the most common yet critical traits amongst the most successful people in the world... the admission of failure... and that you must "fail fast." Identify your failure, acknowledge it and move forward beyond it as soon as possible. Don't dwell on it, ignore it, or worst of all... pretend it isn't there.

Hello Jean... can you hear me?

I may not like him, but I wouldn't exactly call Jean Todt a failure.

    Its so f**king simple:

    1200-1500 Hp engines.
Hard tires that last the race.
No ABS or traction control. ABS is the drivers left foot and Traction control is his right foot.
No refueling. (Races should be won on the track-not in the pits.)
    Reduce aero by 80%
Simple tunnels. No big rear wing.No big front wing. Allows car to race close and not loose aero.
Steel brakes. Make the braking zones looooongeeer.....

But Brian-The cars will be too fast!! So what? Fast in straight line but with hard tires, no aero and 1200 hp wheelspin will keep acceleration down, braking zones will be way longer and cornering speeds will be down. So in the end the car's top speed should not be changed too much and will only be at that top speed on the straights for a small period of time.

Who cares if LMP1 hybrids or superleague or Formula Nippon cars may turn same lap times -or close to an F1 car. Which car is going to be harder to drive? Which car will complement driver skills versus big balls?

Tell me you would not be revved up over these kinds of cars? 4 wheel drifts in corners, potential for wheel spin out of every corner, cars and drivers outbraking each other on every corner, 2-3 cars wide thru a corner?

    Why is it so hard??

I don't recall saying Jean himself is a failure. Many of his decisions and policies surrounding F1 are and instead of recognizing these issues, he doubles down.

I know enough that you are not a car guy. You hate loud engines, hate any perceived element of danger, etc. Again, it's a mystery to me why you follow F1 or racing in general.
