The Chargers and The Raiders

The Chargers announced they are moving to LA. That leaves The Raiders with two choices

1) Stay in Oakland
2) Move to Las Vegas

The Oakland deal appears DOA. It's just a matter of time now.

Next stop: The Las Vegas Raiders!

 

It's probably better that it's the Raiders for Vegas. They have big fan base across the country and they travel.

 

They need to change their name then, I suggest the Las Vegas Gamblers.

 

Raiders should stay in Oakland, LA has a history of not supporting franchises well in the long term.

 

Like the Dodgers, the Lakers and the Kings? Yah no support at all.

LA's football problem has always been lousy stadiums.

Good for them. O Co is a ****hole and always has been.

The paper had mentioned San Diego as an option for them as late as yesterday. What a shot to the Spanos family that would be, eh? SD getting a stadium deal done for the Raiders in about a week after they failed for 15 years.

 

Right after football, basketball will follow. That honestly means nothing to me, I don't care even a bit about the NBA, but it's great for the city.

are they building a new stadium for the NHL team? If so I'll assume they'd be seeking an NBA team to help cover costs (unless UNLV is going to play there)

 

Already built it. T-Mobile Arena opened last spring. Yes, they built an arena before having a team. It was specifically designed for hockey and basketball. It's a GREAT hockey arena. We went to a couple preseason games the Kings played there this year.

In Oct that stadium was the HIGHEST GROSSING Arena in the world! They stage all kinds of concerts and events in there. Its busy.

 

Tell that to the original LA Rams and Raiders. So now LA gets two loser teams to support.

After the NBA All Star game experience from several years ago, it will be an uphill battle for the NBA to put a franchise in here. I don't think the casino industry would support it, and as The Mayor said T-Mobile doesn't need another sports team to fill the venue...in fact, would probably cost them money

 

interesting.

 

Having grown up in Oakland, with pride in the city, I can only say that the city has no business spending a single dime on a sports team. They cannot police their streets nor protect their citizens. The real estate play of building retail near a new stadium will not work well in Oakland exactly because of the unsafe streets and high crime.

Both Vegas and San Diego would be a more safe alternative for fans attending the games, and ultimately any real estate development near the stadium. Las Vegas Raiders seems apropos.

 

The Raiders officially filed to move to LV today.

 

Looks like Adelson got pissed the Raiders were dealing behind his back for a second stadium offer.

 

Yep. Not looking good. But I think there's some hard ball being played. The NFL isn't helping matters either.

I give it 50-50 now. Of course-- the TAX money will still be spent!

 

as I wrote in the business forum...I wouldn't underestimate S.A.'s power and influence, not just financially but politically and of course, publicity. This is not a guy you want to piss off, especially in his hometown.

 

I was so sure this was going to happen. People keep telling me it still will happen but this became bad real quick.

 

There's stuff going on we can't see. I think the NFL doesn't want Adeleson involved at all.

 

That's my impression as well. They don't want a casino guy attached to the team or stadium, and for some reason I feel like it's personal.

The NFL is already dropping hints the team will get approval to move to Vegas on Monday.

If this isn't a done deal there is no such thing as a done deal!
