I have never been, very excited, have reservations at both il Cavallino and Montana for lunch...which should I cancel and which should I go to? :)

    Thanks!

If you have to pick one go to Montanas. Cavallino has better photo opportunities. It is the one everyone recognizes.

    I respectfully disagree.
Photo opportunities at Ristorante Montana are a hundred times better than at Cavallino.
At Montana you can see genuine Ferrari helmets, memorabilia, driver suits, autographs (hundreds), and on and on.
Cavallino is just a rip-off and the food is not on the level of Montana.

    My 0.2 cents.

Better food yet is at Opera 02, if you can do all 3!

Wow, I got a respectfully out of Marcel.

I agree, my comment was based on no one recognizes Montanas inside or out. Everyone knows what Cavallino looks like. Montana will feed you well and the collection is quite a sight.

Cavallino for lunch, Montana for dinner. If you have to choose just one....

    Montana.

If you're a real foodie, go to Osteria Francescana in Modena.

    Have fun!

From my experience you can get better food, and service, at McDonalds than Il Cavallino. Go to Montana or anywhere else.

I exaggerate about Il Cavallino, but you can get a better lunch at even the most pedestrian Italian trattoria.

I liked both but was blown away by the food at nearby Il Cappero alle Mura in Castelvetro.

Yes - Osteria Francescana is regarded as one of the finest restaurants in Italy and perhaps the world. I had a wonderful experience @ Cavallino.

Another one, in Modena, is ristorante Zelmira. Good table, Simon Kidston took me there 10 years ago, have been back several times.

    Thanks all!
Sounds like I should do Montana for the overall experience.
The tour is at 10am, and I have a reservation for Montana at 2pm..that shouldn't be a problem, right?
Then in the afternoon I was thinking of walking around the Ferrari museum..that is in Modena, right?
Anything else I should do before heading back to Florence for the night?
    Thanks again!

    I would eat at Montana's.
But I also think a visit to Cavallino is a must. Since you'll undoubtedly be at the Ferrari Store next door, just drop in for photos and a caffè in their side bar.
There is no shortage of fantastic restaurants nearby.
Antica Moka is a phenomenal experience.

The tour is right around three hours start to finish - although we've taken several tours and it varies each time. The museum (Galleria) is just a few blocks away and is part of the tour (sometimes they give you a voucher to visit after the factory tour is complete). You should have plenty of time.

The Enzo Museum, different than the Galleria, is in Modena, a short drive away.

Which of the 2 Ferrari museums would you choose if you could only visit one? All opinions welcome!

If you find yourself at the Enzo museum then a lunch at the onsite bar/restaurant is pretty good option too...

Another thumbs up for Francenscana - we were lucky and snagged a next day cancellation...

If it was my first time, I'd probably opt for the Galleria. Far more things to see there.

    +1

They are fully booked, but you can get reservations online on first of the month. I found success booking there, but you have to stay up late if you are in the US. Go on their website right around 10:00 am Modena time if I remember correctly.

They got "world's best restaurant" (San Pellegrino) and probably the best in Modena. For Maranello - Retro gusto is not nearly as fancy but is reflected in the final bill. Service was just as good for me, though (but I did go during a non-busy season), so I got very personal attention.

    Enjoy and have fun!

You can finish each museum in 1.5 hours each, so you should be able to do both - if I had to choose one, I actually enjoyed Enzo Ferrari better, that's just me.

(I was there a few weeks ago)

    Cheers
