What an exciting day, I've finally picked up my 246 GT flares with no chairs car. I drove it from the countryside all the way to the CBD, which took just over an hour and now the car won't start 🙁. Nonetheless, I'm happy and excited at the same time so here are the pics!

Time for some much needed TLC and seeing that this car is completely original, which means, it has never been resprayed, never pulled apart and having travelled only 37,100kms with all of the original books, invoices and a full history log file. I've decided to continue on with its legacy of keeping it an original car that may enter a preservation class at concours.

Dinos are sometimes a bit tough to start from hot. If you hold the throttle to the floor while cranking, that clears the carbs and can help.

Only problem is that it won't turn at all, doesn't click over... I'll give it a go this morning, if it does the same thing then I think that the starter motor killed itself. Tried a jump pack, that didn't help, so the battery is full of life I would think. Trying to rule out a few problems...

Congratulations,I had a similar problem and the late John Corbani advised me to get the biggest battery that would fit which was 800 cranking amps worked a treat,I tried the obvious the usual battery packs etc didn't work for me good luck, you have a gem these sort of issues are frustrating but your knowledge about these cars will improve out of sight and this Forum is the best place when you have issues.

Figured out that it's the battery, so I have the biggest battery on it's way!

Before replacing the battery, I'd test the old one first and if found to be OK, leave it in and look for insufficient ground or loose contact somewhere in the starter circuit !?!

Allow me to disagree on the bigger battery. It will not buy you anything. Find the real cause of the problem instead.

TTR's suggestion is much better. Connections are the first thing to check, grounds in particular. Oxidation and poor contacts are common in older unrestored cars.

But my vote for Most Likely Culprit is the ignition switch. Notoriously troublesome. If you don't hear the loud click of the starter solenoid engaging, then that is the problem. Just put a jumper clip across the ignition switch under the dash and you will be cranking again.

If the solenoid is engaging but the starter is unable to crank the engine, then the starter is defective and has to be rebuilt. Also very common, as 500tr mentioned.

But congratulations on the car. You seem to have found an unmolested original car in excellent condition. It looks fantastic.

Cheers to all...! The seller was great, he organised a tow truck to pickup the car and drop it off at a reputable Dino restorer and they went through the car and discovered that the battery was tired, so they replaced it with a new one. Car cranked and on it went onto the truck 😀
