Interesting. In my prior life, we designed intake manifolds using "MANDY" and the goal was to time the opening of the intake valves with the "pressure wave" to gain efficiency as mentioned. Obviously with fixed length runners, you were limited but we then had IMRC systems to "vary" the length of the runners. Good video.

Wasn't Porsche already doing this on the 993 in the mid-Nineties with the VarioRam intake?

Not new but still very cool.

Add in variable valve timing and variable runner length and talk about a complex multi-dimensional tuning map!

And have a look also at the Ferrari 360 Modena and the 550 Maranello. ;)

Varioram was more like that of a solenoid (on-off) whereas LaFerrari has a linear actuator controlling the length of the intake inside a Helmholtz resonator. Porsche had 2 runner lengths, and 2 air inflows, and one cross resonance tube (ala 348).

The result is much the same.

Already did the Enzo have variable cam phase and variable runner length.

The F50 has variable plenum chamber size via butterfly valves. Sometimes one plenum for 6 cylinders each side, or two plenums for 3 cylinders.
