You are probably right but I do not recall that this was mentioned as the mechanism for achieving the increased downforce. Only that air travelling through this 'tunnel' on the rear flanks generated additional downforce.
Very subjective interpretation. I don't think it has any Daytona in it at all IMHO. However I spent more time looking at the rear than any other part of the car as did many others. Similar to how Ferrari evolved the rear on the 488 compared to the 458, but more extensive changes than on the 488. I was probably more surprised with the treatment of the rear, followed by the front end.
would you say that the difference between F12 and F12M is as large a difference (in looks) as between F360 and F430?
Yes - overall silhouette similar but front & rear end detail and aero very substantially revised including side aero. Engineering more like TDF but further improved
Excellent - glad I ordered it then Will definitely go to atelier as I think I need some help to spec it corectly
I haven't seen the M but paraphrasing your words if the three have unique characteristics each that's fantastic because it means the F12B and the TDF haven't become obsolete from day to night. If it's also clear that the M doesn't show the Pininfarina ADN as some say the TDF still had, that means it will be the first coupé of the new era designed by the Ferrari team from where it will be possible to assess the future tendencies.
I was with atelier yesterday and was very helpful with interior as the M has an additional interior accent running through the cabin that gives more opportunity to add different color and texture dimension to the interior. Not sure if GTC Lusso has this but F12 and TDF did not have this option available as was not integrated into the interior design.
I have always appreciated other members providing such feedback in similar situations. Don't want to go into too much spec detail as I would like to keep my allocation and more importantly the surprise element for fchatters and the Geneva reveal.
+1 Firstly thank your for the feedback and congratulation for your allocation.Secondly I have to say that you're absolutely right. A big part of excitement and surprise comes each time when a new model revealed with the first official photos and characteristics. We are waiting very excited about what ferrari did again.
Went today, keen not to breach trust but as widely reported its 800 BHP, same weight as F12, very similar stance. 4WS, electric steering : again as widely reported. 6.5 litre 300cc up. NOT super aggressive as speculated, in fact really classy as most aero front and rear three quarters much better "disguised". Its more elegant than both F12 and Tdf (latter nobody ever says is elegant but aggressive). Front clean and sharp, small honeycomb grill, no lateral chrome so different to GTC. Rear is similar to GTC but slightly wider and fatter lower half like Daytona and FF. Looks better than it sounds. Very modern and tech look. 4 lights, LEDS. Lovely fresh design. Launch colour a plain red and I agree will suit light metallics. Inside is a refresh really similar but more modern, no big screen. Upgrade alloys stunning, hard to describe. Like angled forks, not symmetrical. Forward order book largest ever. Confirmed. Congratulations Ferrari.
The anticipation is growing..... thanks Scraggy for your insights. Few more weeks. I'm going to Geneve on the 14th.
Did you have a look at the tyre size and model? When you say angled forks. Is it a bit like the FJ50 wheels or more like the HRE P201. If it's like the former, that alone could probably make me throw all ideas about the 720S and 488 away and get the M while keeping the 458. I really love that wheel design.
Some thoughts about the 12:th Dimensions payoff. Could it be that the F12M have design details inspired from 12 different V12 modells from the history? Big thoughts...
I'm just joking my friend! It's just my sense of humour. I'm sure nobody of us would ever do something like that... we are loyal Ferrari Fans and customers.
I also went today and agree, this is one really well executed car. I do think it is more aggressive than F12 though. Also don't want to spoil the fun but Ingenere's drawing is on the right lines, but missing some of the extra detail that exists on this car. I think some of those details are exsquisite and the overall look of the car is oh-so-successful. Daytona influences the look and you can see it - what an asset that is! Ferrari are really consistent now and a company with great momentum, especially in terms of product development. I asked a designer about the move from Pinifarina to in-house design and got a very sensible and really interesting answer. PF still do the one-off commissions and "they have a very specialist set of skills that mean Ferrari should not lose the historic link with them". But, these days, aero and style are more inextricably linked than ever. To get that right you need to have a seamless link between design studio, aero team and engineers. The physical distance between PF and Ferrari hampers that process, therefore a better result comes from the close proximity of FDC to all their other functions. Looking at the new car, it's very hard to argue against that logic. I loved it. Should also say a big thanks to Ferrari - they went to a lot of trouble and their presentation was excellent. I know some moan about the new corporate thing but Ferrari don't feel like that at all. The presenters and staff had clearly visible passion and the F1 cars were actually roaring around the track as the reveal was happening. If you couldn't get excited about that, better to give up and find something else to do! I had a great day, met some lovely people and got introduced to a car that the world will now remember forever.
Closer to the HRE 201s but off centre like the f512m. Front wheels are now wider, but otherwise unchanged. Regular rubber.
Sounds pretty interesting. Was there one or two kind of wheels ? (I suppose there was two cars at the presentation)
Apparently from feedback of the other's who attended, there are indeed 2 wheels. One being standard and the other is an optional, racier/sporty rim. The latter seems to be the favorite.
