Could anyone suggest what my chances are of being able to find a pair of standard rear mufflers from a 550 ?

Am looking at TubiStyle equipped cars and want to conserve the option of reverting to original spec in case the cabin noise proves to be tedious or it becomes necessary to present an original-spec car for MoT testing in the UK.

There's a few sets on eBay in the US and Australia right now.

If you get the "575" style Tubis (gen 2) you will be just fine...

Rory there are four generations of these silencers out there. The 550, early 575, late 575 and hgtc. The first three mentioned look almost identical from the outside. Internally small flow changes. Each carries their own part numbers on them that can be found on Ricambi's site.
If you are being model year correct have your part numbers handy when buying. And be sure you are getting a matched set when you buy and upon delivery. Speaking from experience here.
As mentioned previously they do show up on eBay and can still be purchased reasonably.

Not sure why you would want to go back to stock. The 550 was known for being too muted from the factory. Most everyone expects these cars to have aftermarket exhaust, and Tubi is probably most popular. Mine is definitely not too loud.

Agreed. The exhaust note on my 550 is so disappointing coming from the 355.

I'll be replacing the full exhaust system from the headers to exhaust tips to bring the music back into it.

Don't hate me for this....but my Astons actually have better V12 sound than the 550...

I have Tubis on my 550 and I don't love them after a few hours on the road, especially with the windows up.
On shorter blasts, with the windows down, they are indeed fantastic.

This is a 575 but I'm doing the same setup on my 550:

Brings it back to the F1 sound I like.

I'm doing 200 cell race cats on mine instead of he straight pipes. I have no cats on my 355 and he fuel smell can be a little too much. The 550 being a GT car I would like to avoid that.

But yes, Fabios setup is the best option available. I will create a thread with before and after dyno numbers as well as my experience dealing with him once I've completed everything.

The headers come with 200 series cats unless otherwise requested. The straight pipes refers to the center pipe that replaces the center muffler/resonator/cork, not the catalysts. Straight center pipes are standard on late 575Ms (AN 51797 and higher) and all Superamericas.

My 550 had early Tubi mufflers. To loud inside. Now has X pipe in place of resonator. Mufflers are X-OST with out valves. You call talk inside. Pleasant to drive. If you put window down. You can hear the music of a V12.

Same set up as mine... sounds like an F1 V12.

I have a set of valved capristos with a capristo switch they sound nice much better than stock but have to change the headers to get the right sound . I also have 599GTO and an F12 both of them sound just fantastic .. they both have 6 into one factory headers ... makes all the difference.. but love my 550 (just not the sound)

+1 Those are the ones I have on my 550 and they are great!

I also think that I have the original set stored in the garage of the gentleman I bought the car from.

    Cheers
