Thank you all guys, your comments very much appreciated. I'm afraid it will not go to the States unless specifically invited and the time now is to put some track miles on her and see just how good that feels. A real privilege.
Last time she will look like this in this country if current plans hold good. Back to Mototechnique for hopefully the final sorting. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Has to be the most beautiful and well sorted F40 on the planet. Well done! Now drive her like you stole her!! [emoji482] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Please get her wet and dirty. I would love to see that perfectly painted hoodd full of stone chips and road rash. Congrats on a fine project, now go and drive her...hard!!!
Unbelievably beautiful car. If I recall, you have two front clamshells, yes? Which is this and what's the provenance of the original?
Thanks Ingegnere-I agree, its just the most perfect design, genuinely timeless and to me a certain classic in design terms about which you would know! Correct, the original clam is so heavy and hacked about so this is the full lightweight carbon one.
No, I don't believe so. Paint comes from Michelotto who has asked me not to reveal and the wheels also from OZ but via Michelotto.
By that do you mean a single or dual layer paint like Ferrari triple layer paints? Its just the standard RC 30, but done to a standard.
Ferraris prior to 355s with tge exception of the 95 355 were single stage paints where the clear is mixed into the paint. Dual stage is most common today where the color base coat is sprayed and then a clear coat sprayed right after- 2 steps.
Is there a particular item Michelotto builds in this color? How did you come about deciding you wanted this color? Any particular setup you saw? And how did you know Michelotto was the source for the color?
As he was responsible for the original 19 cars, I approached him to see if he could help us on this car. He knew of the car, indeed wondered what had happened to it, and agreed to help and thus opened the door to his knowledge and parts bin.
All LMs started life as road cars and then were radically changed by Michelotto. Being stylish Italian, one of the changes they made was to paint the race car chassis in this wonderful silver.
AH. Now I get it . Thank you for the wonderful build. I have just recently stumbled upon it. Sickest build on Ferrarichat or the Ferrariworld by far.
I was just looking through some of my old pictures. Is this her? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jay Leno used a clear wrap to protect his car. Might be worth a look: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChKdgG0GIHc[/ame]
Indeed, very early days before we were really finished, just rushed to get her to Silverstone in time, a bit like Ferrari with the 812! After this we made many mechanical changes and also the untidy front spoiler attachments were sorted.
