Hi, I am current mclaren owner, would like to get into a 430 scuderia soon if the deal goes through. I am looking for 430scud owners who owns mclarens as well, and would like to see their thoughts about these two super different cars. Thank You
McLaren is great car but lacks passion, can't describe it, compare playing PlayStation to a good cigar and glass of whisky- can't describe that either- both can be great but I'll take the Ferrari everyday (just recently sold my McLaren)
The 675LT and P1 are excellent cars. The Scud and 16M are excellent cars. I cannot fathom selling any of them. The rawness and sounds of the Scud and 16M are phenomenal. The speed, handling, seats, suspension of the 675, understandably, is more advanced than the Scud. After all, it's a seven year newer vehicle. Having owned the 12C and 650S, both of those cars left me wanting. The 675LT is vastly superior to those two cars. As you don't say which McLaren you own, I can only assume it's a 12C or 650 or even 570 and I would prefer the Scud over those cars. The engine is more lively, the overall experience more visceral. Inasmuch as the 675 is double the cost of the Scud, it may not be an economically viable alternative. But, if it were, you should drive the 675. When I track a street car, the keys I most want are those of the 675. Driving that and the Scud back to back on the track revealed the older technology, brakes, and tires issues of the Scud comparatively. I do love the Scud and 16M. From a depreciation standpoint, they are probably the better choice. As this is Ferrari Chat, I will not say I would select the 675 over the Scud, I just will say if you think it's like the 12C or 650, you haven't driven it.
I've heard of these before, ferrari having more soul and character in the car, while mclaren is more like a game, it's so easy to drive fast. Thanks for the complete response, I currently own a 650s, yes you are correct i haven't got the chance to drive 675. Engine is more lively, I am just super worried that once I made the move, I will regret for getting into an older car. I understand how the rareness, the rawness of scuderia would offer a different experience. I just hope that what the scuderia can offer me will be worth it.
The 650 IS fast, the 430 scud FEELS fast. The scud will probably hold value better if that's a factor. I've considered moving from a f430 non-scud to an mp4-12c or 650, but each time I drive my car I can't imagine getting rid of it. I also live in a location where servicing Mclarens would be a challenge.
I know it's a relative thing, but the scud IS fast. I'm reminded of this every time I drive it in anger. Amazing how well it competes with modern-day supercars given its age.
I had a twin supercharged scud and a few mclarens. When I had the Scud I wasn't into tracking and wanted a more gentleman type of ride. the squeaks, the lack of insulation inside the car (exhaust sound) and overall stiffness didn't appeal to me at the time. No passenger ever wanted to go into the car a second time. I still regret having sold it now. That single clutch, sound, etc. is difficult to beat but you'll have issues I mentioned above.
I agree the performance in the f430 scuderia is impressive and stacks up well given it's ~10yr age disadvantage. We are entering a crazy time in car performance though. A factory car that is capable of 136 mph in the 1/4 mile is amazing. That difference between 127mph and 136mph trap speeds will be very apparent side by side on the open road. The single disk superfast transmission and sound/feel of the Scud will make you feel as if you're going about as fast though if driven independently. 650s Spider Standing 1/4-Mile 10.5 sec @ 136 mph F430 Scud Standing 1/4-Mile 11.6@127 mph
Both cars are exceptional in their own ways. Driven on their limits in both cars you have exactly to know what you are doing. You have written it; two completelly different cars. Both leading in its market niche, both benchmark for direct competitors. That is the reason why I own both and why I will own both forever. Go for the Scud, I'm sure you will miss the Mac, go for the Mac, I'm sure sou will miss the Scud.
Definitive MaranelloDave, I'm with you. I guess sometimes we loose the reality a little bit, these cars we are talking about are all fast, dangerous fast.
Get the Scud, don't worry about it. Should you not like it, you can always sell it easily. Hold it for six months to a year and you'll probably even cover taxes and commission. At the end of six months, and adding in your significant other's huge Christmas bonus to your net from the Scud sale, you can buy the 675 for less than you could today.
I owned an MP4 before. Also got to drive an LT for a few hot laps at Sonoma. MP4 left me wanting for me, still an impressive performance tool. The LT is an even more impressive tool. I managed to clock in a respectable 1:49 with it at Sonoma. That alone made me want one. I also like the looks. There's still turbo lag but you adjust your driving style a touch, and you don't really even notice it after awhile. An LT for lap times/bragging rights, a Scud for fun/noise would be an amazing duo imho. Both seem to be holding value really well also. I really like that new P14 that's coming out soon...been told base price is $290k though...
I own a 16M and a 675LT Spider. Two different cars...both incredible driving experiences and neither are slow! The 675LTS is an angry banshee and faster, but the 16M provides a unique raw experience that puts a wide grin on your face, which never gets old. If I need to choose between a Scud and a 12C or 650, I would go Scud/16M. I love the sound, the rawness and the transmission of the Scud/16M...also the Scud/16M will most likely cost you less money to own given the depreciation curve of the 650, which will accelerate once the 720 has been on the market for a year. 12C will probably not depreciate as fast anymore and offer great value for incredible performance, but I will still take the Scud.
Thats a great plan - don't know how old u r but keep the Scud for at least a year of two(you will have a hard time seeing it go out the door) and you will be in fat city
