Did Pininfarina have overall design responsibility for the f12b? I know their name is on the side but I suspect it was far more of a collaboration with Ferrari Design Studio than say the 458 which was all Pininfarina. There are aspects of the f12b especially the front profile and perhaps the diffuser incorporated into the bodywork which look more Ferrari than Pinin.

True about the CGI images, which also appear to be retouched (a long standing tradition with new Ferrari releases - i don't know why) and are tending to flatten the surfaces and details. You can see on the dark matte car the more rounded surface at the beltline and at the fender leading to the beltline. This was evident under the camo and I was surprised to not see this on the official pics.

I noted elsewhere (the other thread, ha-ha) that at least some of what is being referred to as complexity in design was aero driven, so agree.

When F12b was released, videos of the design process clearly showed Manzoni and crew reworking the front in clay applied over a finished, painted model which had a more traditional, rounded grille surround. I have a screen grab I can look for if interested.

Makes sense because there was a time when all the models had a similar face - f12, FF. fortunately they've now moved away from that idea.

    Agree.
When you look at the side by side pictures here you see how pininfarina continues lines across different segments of the car...it unites the whole design into a cohesive theme.
For instance look at the rear side by sides...the rear window edge angles down and flows right into the "uterus." Now look closely at the 812..boxy, split, cut up pasted on pieces that disturb any flow. Post #205

Overall, pininfarina seems to trigger, in the male brain at least, those hidden parts of your midbrain that suggest a sexy flowing female shape.
Look at the front of the F12, especially standing facing one up close in real life, the front wings bow out like a woman's hips, and the hood crease evokes the shape from lower abdomen transition down to pubis flanked by upper thighs.
The "uterus" at the back does the same, flowing curves that evoke female.
    812 is choppy.
As an example look in front of front wheel, the back angle of the aero piece doesn't parallel anything else on the side of the car...pininfarina never would have done that. Second picture post #15.

Would be interested to see someone here mock all that up with their computers..I just have an iPad.

Having said all that can't wait to see it in person..and likely will buy one for what it is. Though never selling my GT F12.

    Forza Ferrari!

Craig I always knew there was a great deal of femininity wrapping the F12 740 hp gladiator but with your brilliant metaphoric design analysis, I finally understood why I couldn't resist her and why now she's mine.

My wife says the 812 is "trying to go Beast Mode" on the F12.

The HP is no longer really an issue at these levels. But the 4WS, faster shifts and the weight reduction are the real deal. I agree it does not improve on the F12b's PF design, but my guess is that when we actually drive it, the usual aesthetic beauty of Ferrari machinery itself will prove nearly as seductive.

Are there any shots of the engine bay about?

Funny, I was just thinking the same, starting to really love the side profile.
