Thanks Barry! You are better at finding this stuff than I am. Spent an hour online and couldn't find the adverts like you posted ^

    Jim,

I scanned those two Road & Track adverts years ago when I owned my 308 GTB. I'm happy that they've answered some of your questions.

Really nice interior on that Challenge car, and I know it really gets driven. Now that these cars seem to be shooting up, do you think of using it less, or getting a 360/430/458?

Probably because of the mileage. Is there any mention of when the last major was done and if the usual 355 culprits have been fixed? That car would be a prime candidate for me if I sold my GTS since I'm looking for something with higher mileage I can track. The mileage thing is fairly important for most buyers. My car has 32k miles and it's sort of in no man's land because of that even though it's fully sorted.

Market is picking up a bit and will probably do so more a bit once spring comes around in my opinion.

Last engine out was done in 2009 so it's due for one. I would've bought this car in a heartbeat.

I'm not a race car driver by profession. But I'm a decent intermediate-level HPDE driver and my F355 Challenge is the perfect car for me. Indeed, a frequent instructor, a Rolex Series driver, said the same when I first drove my car at Pocono Raceway five years ago with him in the right seat. It's handling characteristics are docile and predictable. One has to work hard to get into trouble driving the F355 Challenge. I'll be staying with my F355 Challenge and have no desire to switch to a succeeding model.

As far as the value of the car, it's always insured appropriately. Should anything happen to it, it can be fixed just the way it has been many times in the past.

And since this is a market thread, I'd like to comment that the value of my car has been illogically inflated by a market which now contains individuals intent on buying an F355 Challenge for its presumed collectability potential. I'm not certain what the future holds for the F355 Challenge in this regard. I just know the car to be a fine track car in its Challenge form and a fine platform to hone my driving skills.

We'll see. Seems like a lot of cars on the market right now. More than I've seen in a couple of years. Many for pretty long. There are at least 7 355s for sale within 75 miles of my home. Never seen that before. Auction prices have been lackluster. Have to wait for the latest round to get a better feel. A quick check of Mobile DE show 111 cars for sale in Europe. One US site listed 68. Who opened the flood gates?

John - I highly doubt 68 355's are for sale now in the US. My guess is 1/3-1/2 that number.

Careful with Autotrader - 1/2 the cars listed there are long sold.

Ironically, cars.com has turned into a reliable site. They've made quite a bit of changes and a worthy autotrader competitor.

    Yep.

Same owner also sold a 246 GT for ca £440K, same auction.

Looks like the upwards trend is gaining momentum again.

With a different interior color, the wheel rash repaired, and the engine side panels reinstalled, the seller might have been able to price it a bit higher.
