Spot on. Aluminum finish will look great with Blue or Red 812's. Reserve CF for TDF's Speciale's etc etc.
I'd say the risk of small dash and steering wheel inserts spontaneously catching fire is pretty remote. However, wheels and gearbox assemblies that are near super hot brakes and engine parts, that's another matter entirely. If your car is so engulfed in flames that the interior trim parts burn, one of two things will happen. 1: The firefighters may stand back and let the thing burn if nobody is in immediate danger - there's a fuel explosion to think of. 2: A properly trained firefighting brigade will most likely be trained to handle that fairly small amount of magnesium - just like they know how to handle the 50 liters of fuel in the tank and the oil in the engine - not to mention the toxic fumes belching from the burning wreck. I think most firefighters will consider the petrol tank and respiratory hazards of more of a problem than 2-3 lbs of magnesium on the inside. Not saying magnesium is not something to be cautious about because I certainly know it is. I just think in this case you're making a very big deal out of something that is pretty much a non-issue. I don't think a Chiron or Veyron is a ticking firebomb on wheels, do you?
Well said. I was at the preview, and the 812 is gorgeous in person. Aggressively elegant. The rear end is an exercise in forms follows function. Every vent and slit serves an aerodynamic purpose. Grays are probably the most flattering colors, as with every other GT Ferrari in the past many years IMO. I think the rear diffuser looks best in body color, rather than black or CF. The 812 looks significantly lower and wider than the F12. I think dual taillights would have made the rear end look even fatter than it already is.
Maybe I should refresh my memory bi visiting F12 launch tread, but as far as I can remember, most members reacted very positively on first CGI photos, except for rear (most ppl saw thong association)
It has been posted a while back but it is a welcome repost. With all the talk being about the 812s looks I almost forgot about the engine. It's a great looking unit and interesting that the two inlet chambers from the F12 seem to have been integrated into the main head cover. We are looking at probably the last NA V12 and I think with 6.5 litres and 800HP this engine is a fitting tribute to the era.
Nice post Mario. Some great rears. To my eyes in the dual and quad lights work in most cases. I don't have a real preference. Also I think the 599 GTOs rear was ahead of its time. I hope the same is true of the 812 rear.
Looks like the steering wheel leds now are in two colors. 7 Red leds then turning to blue at the last two .

Amen! I love the older wheels -esp the f50 which feels just so right and purely functional with lovely dimensions - having said that I'm a sucker for the Leds and cf on the current models .... almost as if I can't myself loving any chance to drive these beauties !
Any word if the 812 intake manifold is painted plastic like the 488? Doesn't seem like it but wondered if anyone was specifically told. Also, the whole magnesium discussion would make a little more sense if the metal was actually attractive in any way. Its gray, bland, cracks and I believe is used to ignite thermite. If I were looking for a thin coating of metal with a special finish for a different statement then something like copper, silver, brass, stainless, bronze, gold, platinum, titanium, etc. They at least have an interesting and unique color. Many would cost less than the Ferrari CF! What really looks great is a surface treatment called Kashima coat. Its a hard anodize that's grown on the base aluminum and then molybdenum disulfide is deposited into the crystal structure. I have a set of forks and rear suspension on one of my bikes in that stuff and it is like golden smooth root beer. Beautiful and functional. Image Unavailable, Please Login
IIRC from the preview, the manifolds are not plastic, but I didn't explicitly check. Totally agree with you on finishes. Ferrari is in the business of economic alchemy in terms of CF option pricing, but I guess that no different from other luxury goods manufacturers. I am a big fan of Kashima coating as well - very durable. Have you seen any interior application of it?

Why the snide remarks? Thought we had a friendly discussion. I'm not armchair firefighting. I'm just making suggestions as to what kind of issues may be more of a problem. But since you bring up my lack of knowledge. I have 4 months with the Danish Civil Defense Force when I was drafted in to do my military stint back in '91. That included chemical firefighting. I'm not an expert and I don't do firefighting for a living, but I have learned from those who are and do. We may not agree on this and that's fine, but there's no reason to be rude and condescending.
Just looking at that Momo makes me shudder thinking we were so stupid so recently as to have open sharp metal opposite our sternum ! Agreed 355 airbag wheel awful but getting better all the time ! Take safety over the look at such a dangerous spot !

With anodizing can you change the colour based on the process i.e. can you get different basic shades?
