So here's a question. How is it possible Jim Meade had offered 0846 (in whatever form) to JG in 1971? It doesn't jive with the story Ferrari scraped the car, unless you believe Meade fished the chassis out of the scrap pile and created some version of a car; nor does it work with the story Piper or his chassis builder somehow used only the un-burned portion of that chassis to build DP-003. Or does it?
I figured that's what he meant, but the question remains. If Meade had 0846 in 1971 and supposedly offered it to JG, how does that fit the known timeline? And are we supposed to believe the car/chassis was then sold to Piper's chassis builder who integrated it into a car Piper always called a replica? Then, years later, he sold a it as replica DP003 even though he would have had to have known it was actually 0846 since there's zero chance Meade wouldnt have sold it in the early 70s as such.
Possibly because all Meade actually had was a few bent, burned tubes of metal, found during his time in Italy, far easier for Piper to have a new chassis built instead of buying such, he had the support of Enzo to construct a continuation so did not need for the provenance of a scrapped car anyway, little value back then. If Meade did in fact have such he probably just binned it in the end.
Just wanted to post pictures with clearer descriptions to demonstrate that the cylinder block deck height of a 4 litre P4 (and 4.2 Can Am) engine is longer than on Mr Glickenhaus's 3.0 litre 312 F1 engine. Look between the 2 red lines of the 2 pictures and you can see the difference which proves the engine in his car is not a P4 engine as he says and the cylinder block on his car is not interchangeable between 312 F1 and P4 as he says. Edited post to include pictures of an actual 330 P4 engine where you can see the cylinder block deck height is longer than it is on Mr Glickenhaus's 312 F1 36 Valve engine. Also, IF Meade had the chassis of 0846 how would he have known? According to JG Ferrari had cut the chassis tag off the car before they threw it out, and they still have it! Nathan
Pure speculation but I imagine whilst Meade used to dumpster dive around the back of Maranello he would have chatted to the workers there and they would have told him what came from where. Very tenuous link though I agree.
Meade told me in 2012 he did not own a P3 nor a P4 frame. He could not even tell the difference between a 330P or a P4 frame. We were discussing on an other Ferrari related topic. Cervan is also not related to Piper, but to an other guy from the UK, mr V. He does not want to be envolved in this matter. I am also in touch with Vaccari, soon more info No one wants to make written statements, all say: bring the car to Maranello.
This information, plus the evidence from Wayne Ausbrooks, effectively destroys the Meade story once and for all. Although there never was any proof of the Meade story; it was always supposition presented as proof. Nathan
Anyway you can expand upon this Mr. V I don't know who he is... Also, I am not ever sure I have heard of this character before. You stated he doesn't want to be involved and I completely respect his right to privacy etc... Anyway you can share what his involvement is or rather was and what he did back that to be in this circle? Again, without revealing perhaps his true identity on the internet... This seems like a very new wrinkly... but perhaps I have completely forgotten who this Mr. V guy could be.
gotcha. So it was a blatant mistake or fallacy to tie cerevan to the 003/0846 story. Completely unrelated and has NOTHING to do with it. correct?
Agreed!!!!!!! Lets try to let Steve become the 10,000th post! He earned it! That is a great idea! In the mean time... I am curious what the fchat community would think about the following: Keep this thread for debate. New "STICKY" thread for the 0846 vs 003 documented evidence. Post Jims PDF... and Take Steves info and put into a PDF or both in another format that would work best for the site. Just present both sides as much as Jim wants to update his info on his pdf he may as much as the "Steves" want to update theres they can. Then they can both present there side. Then lock it. let the discussion take place in the debate thread My thought behind this is it allows both sides to present there side and not have to have people dig through 10,000 posts for information.
Surprised no one has yet commented on the latest issue of Prancing Horse (FCA magazine)...page 33...shows picture of 0846 and describes it as being in a private collection.
They found it?! Sorry... I still think that's the funniest and most appropriate response to articles referencing 0846. In any event, articles that are written due to Jims other cars or perhaps ones that are funded in some way to legitimize a car purchased and documented as a replica are of no interest to 99.9% of the followers of this thread anymore. The jig is up. The dream ship has sailed. DP003 isn't 0846 and JG claiming it from the mountain tops isn't going to change that. It's unfortunate Prancing Horse and other publications are allowing themselves to be manipulated in such a way.
Some pretty strong claims Jam1 makes, especially the bit about Jim funding the FCA to write about his car, anyone else want to comment on that?
Private collection refers to the photo credit in the caption column. I think thats pretty clear. The photo is from a private collection. Nowhere does it say anything about that car surviving or being in a private collection. Nathan
