Chinese govt propaganda. I don't believe a word of it. If you want efficient coal power stations, go to Denmark, they get 47% efficiency.

The reason Trump gets so upset about fake news is he keeps getting fooled by it ... lol.

Notice how Pence and others are now contradicting their boss. Real politicians versus a person who just shoots his mouth off.

Ian, did you read the Minerals Council paper?
Also, what is referred to today as CSG is NOT the same as 'natural gas' tapped 40 years ago. The issue is NOT with natural gas but with the 'fracking' technique used to extract gas from poor quality seams - we're destroying prime farmland for this, it's madness.

Karen, did you read my post? CSG is what we used to call natural gas, however it was tapped, fracking is not new. Agree that today people use CSG to refer to gas from fracking-extraction. My point was that the environmental aspects are now well regulated, including toxic chemicals banned.

For every farmer who opposes it, there is another who is quite happy to have wells on their land. On average, they get $25K per well per year. The unhappy farmers make better news stories though and of course the green lobby gets the majority of media attention.

The Hunter Valley in NSW is a disaster area of open cut coal mines (approved by a state labor govt btw) with huge health risks because of wind carried dust. The region has the highest respiratory disease rate in the country. CSG is better for prime farmland than coal mining and burning it to make electricity is the next cleanest (after nuclear) way to get baseload power.

You do realise that Peter Beattie is the real culprit there?

UCG was already a widely known problem, then they fracked with BTEX, also full of known carcinogens. Sorry, but a classic QLD govt+cowboy story.

This is horrible for local people, but no reason to not pursue CSG, in a properly regulated way, as a clean low cost energy source.

It's also the only way QLD will ever pay off Labor's debt, which is the worst in the country.

Someone very close to me was on the legal team sorting out the Qld government buy back of logging contracts (to satisfy their green agenda). The independent valuation was $24M; the Gummint paid $48M. Now multiply that wastage times 1,000, and that's where we find ourselves. And yet that moonface, smiling assassin keeps getting plum job after plum job.

yeah, the regulation of franking is working out real well... Many hard up farmers DID take the money to allow fracking on their land (how many understood what was involved?) Many have lived to regret it (and at least one farmer died regretting it). I can't find any figures, but suspect the numbers of farmers accepting it are falling daily.
Hunter Valley old coal extraction at least didn't poison the ground water...

He just called from the airport enroute to UnZud.

Not him,he'd be the one holding a shotty at the gate stopping anyone entering his property.

Sidenote, all clear through the bushfires, only to have a mini cyclone go straight through the machinery shed on Tuesday(he'd left Friday for 2 weeks off)!!!!!

    Shed's disappeared,2 ute's wrecked,1 truck and a 4 wheeler damaged.....what dumb luck is THAT!!!

We are going to massively lower taxes on the middle class, reduce taxes on American business, and make our tax code more simple and fair for everyone.
In anticipation of these and other changes, jobs are already starting to pour back into our country. Ford, Fiat Chrysler, General Motors, Sprint, Intel and so many others are making major investments in the United States – expanding production, hiring more workers.
It is time to get Americans off of welfare and back to work.

An American tourist in Brisbane had a bleeding aneurysm on the brain. Being a foreign national, he had to pay for everything, and the total bill was $35,000. During the procedure, another aneurysm was noticed, and he was instructed to have it done electively at a later time. His healthcare company in the US quoted $250,000. His insurer flew him out to Australia to have it done. This was 20 years ago. There are some very basic problems with US healthcare that Obamacare didn't even scratch.

I have a good friend who is a back surgeon in a public hospital in the East Bay (the non wealthy part) of San Francisco. He has been angry about Obamacare from the outset, a total failure which the media completely ignored - just like all of Obama's failures. He's a registered democrat btw.

SBS news last night all over a so called "hate crime" where an Indian guy was shot. No mention ever of the huge increase in black-on-black gun crime during the previous 8 years.

PP, I highly recommend this site for intelligent and perceptive writing about the major US issues: Manhattan Contrarian

Latest article is spot on, if Trump's policies work, it will destroy the entire "progressive" argument, thats why the left hate him so.

It's an interesting experiment that is playing out with Trump attempting to put economic theory into practice. I am not sure how many of his ideas he will be able to get through the other layers of government and I am certainly fascinated to see how it all turns out. I hope it works.

Some of the articles on that website are interesting.

Obamacare was a compromise from the start. What is needed is a state run health system. He would never have been able to get that through.

Very interesting article Ian, and a couple of points pertinent to the last couple of posts here:
Obamacare - I think most Australians can't believe the Americans have limped along with their disastrous health care 'system' for so long, and had great hope for Ocare. it has turned out to be no better than before, but surely some blame for that must lie with the opposition senate which castrated the bills; not to mention the industry lobby. So far we've heard that Trump will destroy Ocare, but no mention of its replacement.
Trumps jobs / industry policies - so just where are these claimed jobs? Boing admitted after the press conference that their net employment would actually be FALLING, despite the hype of the new jobs to build the featured plane. Similarly the auto jobs (and sorry I forget the plant location) were all conditional on government grants being given to the plant!
IF Trump has real plans he should be clearly articulating them now, especially as he has both senate and congress on his side.

Trump has the numbers in both Congress and Senate so not hamstrung as Obama was. Whether there is thinking to back up the wishes, is another thing...
