98365 had been offered on eBay out of Biloxi in Oct of '16 with a $54.9k BIN. Then it was shown as sold for $49.5k at the B-J Scottsdale auction last month. Now it's back on eBay, again out of Biloxi: 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider | eBay

Does B-J allow certain no-reserve sellers the opportunity to "buy" their cars back at a significantly reduced premium or did these guys have to eat the B-J commission? Or...?

Edit: just noticed that the same eBayer has listed this TB (90679), which was shown as sold for $63.8k at the January Scottsdale B-J auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/192114451030?ul_noapp=true

Shenanigans is a good description. The red 1991 TB has a severe mileage discrepancy between today's listed figure and the AutoCheck record several years ago (43,300 vs. 37,000)

why don't you ask the seller directly why the discrepancy between their listed miles and the miles on the autocheck record vs (before) coming here and randomly casting a negative cloud over the car? Or do you know it to be a fact? Car also sold at another Scottsdale auction in 2015 and had 36600 miles at the time. BJ ad lisitng seemed to be a cut and past from the other auction.

Many auction houses have a provision for this (owners) buying it back

Makes sense but seems a little shady for the auction house to show the cars as sold in the auction results.

I didn't say anything negative about the car- only that there was a big discrepancy between the listed miles and the miles showing up in the AutoCheck report. The seller did not mention the apparent mileage discrepancy in the ad narrative which a serious bidder would most certainly notice while doing their due diligence and there is no odometer photo for the listing. Did the seller not notice this or does he not care to address or correct? As you mentioned, it could have been a sloppy cut and paste error. However, the seller did address mileage in the ad narrative for the other (blue) car listed and did display an odometer photo. Caveat Emptor!

If the seller at bj had numerouse cars there he could buy it back at a reduced commision. I know because I have seen this happen. They can use a third party bidder and its not illegal.

    Shennanigans definitely.

Nice catch this kind of thing oftain goes unnoticed.

No any sort of obvious deception, but I found my car on ebay, contacted the dealer and worked a deal- lower than asking price, but much higher that the auction ended for ($49K), but when the auction ended it was as SOLD for the high bid.. but it obviously didn't sell as I have it, and I never bid on ebay. Always seemed strange.

Seller of the TB (said) he did not know the autocheck reports 43K miles. The car went through a Russo and Steele or other auction in scottsdale (not BJ) in 2015 and listing showed 36K miles. Most likely some "overworked" DMV desk jockey in 2014 hit 43300 instead of 33000. It happens, no reason to rush to judgement or blacklist the car due to some clerical error that can be considered a "reasonable/understandable error"

Hopefully the service records said to accompany the car can clarify the mileage without need of fabricating an excuse. However, the seller is being very sloppy in not presenting the car in the best possible light.

My car was a US car that went to Canada then back to me in the US. The miles got listed as KM on one registration, and throws an odometer discrepancy on Carfax. Once you read through the service history and Carfax it makes sense what happened. Bottom line, Auto Check and others are not without issues.

If I back my car into a post and repaint the rear end without a police report or insurance, no way that will show up anywhere. I guess it is like a home inspection, good for negotiating but many times not worth the paper it is printed on.

Very, very true. The info contained in those reports should be taken with a *huge* grain of salt.

Do you pay for autocheck and carfax and whatever else is out there on every car you could be interested in? Because just like your creadit reporting agencys they sometimes get different info. They also don't guarentee it either.

So when I sell a car should I pay these extortionist companies for their not so accurate info and really whats the bug deal the car has over 30k miles its no creampuff. And miles are actualy really only tracked for warranty purposes, and once out of warranty the law doesnt give a **** as most cars are listed with exempt after they are out of the normal warranty window.

Buy on condition not miles anyway.

Be very careful with online auctions. I found a 308 GTSi online, then found the same car in another online auction. I was able to track down the actual original owner, who told me he sold the car 6 months prior; but, his exact listing, with the car in front of his house, was being listed again on one site, with the same car listed on another site with different alleged owner. I informed both sites of the issue, and the fraudulent listing was quickly taken down. Just be very careful, and if something doesn't seem right, it probably isn't. It is very hard to recover money that has been lost as a result from online fraud. Most LE agencies do not have the resources to investigate these types of crimes, and they become a bank or insurance issue.
