Thanks again for your rather elborate description Jag. I can't wait to see the car in various colours next week. Still haven't made up my mind which colour to go with as I suspect like yourself various colours will work.

I also saw it at Fiorano (nice write up Jag) and talked to one of the designers about it. Under the indoor lighting it looked similar to Rosso Corsa, however, in the Atelier room, at least in his opinion, it looked closer to mugello.

It is a new style of paint, with a solid base, like Rosso but apparently using less 'orange'. The tricky part is the lacquer layer, which is not clear. It has darker red pigmentation suspended in it. This bit is very exacting - they need to get the number of microns exactly right. Too many and it is just dark, too few and it is not noticeable. The idea is to get the traditional effect of the Rosso solid paint, but with an added ability to show off the complex lines as a metallic would.

I would never have thought to order an F12 in a solid red, but I'm pretty sure that my 812 will be the Rosso Settanta colour. So many have said grey or dark colours from the photographs, but my initial reaction was the opposite. This car suits being a bit of a show off - its lines are an asset and the car is quite extrovert.

    Brilliant and thanks.

I have been vacillating between TDF and a "Rosso" and this might solve the problem for me. I really did not like the F12 in RC but I am hoping based on yours and Jags review that Settanta would convince me

Endless waits. I can't wait to see the car. For newer models we had nice car preview from the spy video while filming the official video. This time nothing. For now, no spy filming.

Anyway about colors I think it's fair to rely on Ferrari designer and stylists. Look at F12 for example: In 2012 Ferrari showed cars at Geneva in beautiful matte aluminum with blue interior and red with cuoio interiors. Some years later showed dark F12, grey and blu, metallic and no.. When you see F12 in the flesh best combination are the ones created by stylists. Some of contrasting color combinations are important about final appearance of the car. Tailor made programmes have often resulted in bizarre color combinations and in my view misplaced. The same thing for 488.. I saw 488 in blu corsa with charcoal interior: the result was perfect. I also see sometimes yellow cars with red interior, red steering wheel or red body with red interior. Horrible. Definitely some cars require some certain colors. For example I never would purchased a GTC4Lusso in giallo modena or rosso corsa or rosso dino. Finally, I believe that is essential the customer's taste.

Seeing how poorly Ferrari usually does exactly this, I'd be hesitant to order any colour from them, that was actually very dependent on micron thickness. Every single Ferrari I have ever seen had its paint thickness measured, was all over the place.

As for an even spray, it has been like that with the "clear" candy colours for many years. You can basically control the tone of the colour, by how thick you spray it or how many layers are put on. It's a true art and few get it exactly right.

You may want to double check re that color name.
In Geneva next week two 812 SF's will be shown, one will be a "red" one but the name is definitely not Rosso Settanta. I have photographic proof for that but for obvious reasons cannot post here right now.
The other one at GVA will be in a "grey" color, see also my earlier posts.

It's difficult to say with the lighting at the presentation - it seems a quite luscious deep red-sorry but diff to describe...
