If your tune produces the desired effect, your driveway will look like this for quite a while in the foreseeable future, as customer cars flow in and out for the tune!!
Great. My neighbors must already think I'm a drug kingpin Managed to define all the necessary tables in rhe calibration last night and with the exception of some minor changes in the throttle tables, Mike's 2013 Spider stock mapping looks to be identical to the mapping that was on my stock (but sw updated) 2010 coupe. So the results of my tuning work should be identical to what I saw in my car. I should be able to verify this this evening BTW, first time driving a Spider. What a delightful car! Definitely has more noticeable chassis flex than my coupe. But a top down Ferrari motoring experience is hard to beat. Improving the exhaust sound is going to have a big subjective effect!
OpenFlash - when you change the throttle mapping, are you only doing it in certain driving modes? Or is the throttle map changed across the board?
I can adjust throttle mapping in individual driving modes. The one that needs it the most is the Race/CST mode. In coupes, its way too aggressive all around. With Spiders, it is lazy below 10% applied throttle and then turns on like a light switch at greater pedal angles. Bad like the coupe but just in different ways.
Wooo hoooo!!! Can't wait for the vids!! Congrats in advance! We've been waiting a few years for this!
Definately a breakthrough. Warmest congratulations, Shiv! Looking forward to the videos. Keep up the good work and thank you. Kind regards, Nuno.
Thanks guys! Mike was nice enough to let me keep the car for an extra day so I can test a few more things. I'll have some video posted later tonight. I'm really happy with how things turned out
lol, thanks for catching that Because, once remapped, the ECU does a better job of controlling the exhaust valves. The Capristo/Forza valve controller is rendered redundant.
Results on the 2013 were the same as what we documented on my 2010 here: https://youtu.be/Mbye5pgn938 However, I did play around with the mapping to induce some smaller pops in addition to burble/crackle. Not loud gun shot noises. But still loud enough to hear. The most important thing here is that even newer model year cars are tunable in this respect. I expected as much but it was nice to be able to confirm. I'll try to get the video online tonight.
Dear Shiv, Great work and nice overrun, congrats!! I am sure Mike will be very pleased with his Spider Just 3 questions if I may: 1. do you have stock cats and headers in the video below? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mbye5pgn938&feature=youtu.be 2. was the video below taken after the video above, as per it saying that the car has straight pipes and aftermarket headers? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Yt0HoeQfs 3. assuming that the answers are yes to both questions above why do you think that the overrun sounds similar with both exhaust configurations? From my experience and that of other owners of original ecu cars, the overrun should sound much louder if stock cats are removed. Perhaps you could look into the above for those wanting a little more extreme overrun, just a thought. If not possible, then so be it I guess. Anyhow, congrats again!! Very best
I reckon professionals like Shiv and Mark can better answer that question. Fwiw my car is an April 2010 build which if I understand correctly was the first ever month of production for the 458, so I reckon that I am lucky to have the very incipient ecu map or the like.. Perhaps my good friend monacodibaviera can weigh in on this as he has the same exhaust setup than me on an original ecu car giving if memory serves me well similar 'gunshot' overrun. I am sure that in time a tune can be developed that safely induces more overrun, for the time being I applaud Shiv's work in succeeding to being able to restore overrun sounds to those 458 owners that desire it, and for doing so in a responsible and safe way: congrats again! Very best
For comparison on idle non-under load sound difference in crackle volume, here are 3 vids of my Italia revving at a standstill, all taken with 100 Aki octane fuel which induces more overrun. The first is with 100% stock exhaust, the second with stock cats, IPE headers and OEM sports mufflers and the third with the mods described previously plus 200 cell cats: clearly much more apparent crackles in the last one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx9Iie7-avQ&list=FLRhBl1VE_bnoioWGW8DTd4A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FO9PnCWIcHA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKycoqlkbNA
Here are comparative sound vids of incipient original ecu taken with a go pro mounted outside the car, the first is with 100% stock exhaust which displays overrun which sounds similar to the one currently offered in the upcoming aftermarket tune, the second video (first minute only) is with IPE headers, 200 cell cats and gem sports mufflers: overrun in considerably louder. Ecu was not touched. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWc2AdErGco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUZu_nuk3iw
