BTW that's a big chopper, I've only ever been in Chinooks or Iroquois flown by maniacs .... brilliant maniacs but mad all the same :)

My first ever helicopter ride was also in the back of a Chinook, also flown by a maniac lol. I was always in the back tho when wearing green!

I flew workers to rigs In the south China and Timor sea, until lovely redundancy kicked in a number of months ago

Gives me more time to stay home and waste money on things like cars these days

That just means you are holding the ipad upside down when taking the photo :)

The "right" way up is with the camera at the top so in the case of my iPhone 6 it is with the home button on the right. Don't have an iPad but likely to be a similar layout.

Hope it works - I take loads of photos with my iPhone for note taking purposes and was frustrating until I worked out this issue. The cause is that the camera takes the photo and creates the file raw... the sensors in the iPhone identify which way up the phone is and add that information to the exif file of the photo. Some software checks the exif for orientation but simpler image viewers don't (which is why some people see the image the right way up and others see it upside down).

Don't know about screen shots though - never thought about them.

Nice pics Tristan, as usual :)

The first pic is interesting as it shows in-flight refuelling from drop tanks , I went up in a KC-135 too many years ago to say and laid in the boom operators position to get a first hand look at fuselage refuelling to F-111s ...... that was old school from the looks of the drop tanks ?

Also looks like they are returning to putting weapons inside the aircraft again

The JSF is a giant POS. I'm stunned that Australia got sucked into it, but it was while Howard was giving George W a colorectal exam, so bound to happen. We're going to be polishing that turd for years to come.

I agree. The plane with the weapons bay open is the F-22. The JSF is in the last photo.

I know. I was referring to the last photo. Didn't pay much attention to the F-22.

Australian politicians of either flavour have participated in bad decisions since WW2 and there's no signs of our defence/political establishment getting any smarter. As long as the minister of the day gets a good photo op.

Happily Trump is changing the cosy arrangements from the US taxpayer's PoV, so the JSF will at least get cheaper.

Agree that our people will spend years and many dollars making the JSF workable, just in time for it to become obsolete. Reminds me of the (French) Mirage, another single engine fighter that was designed for completely different conditions to ours.

The F22 makes more sense for Oz, just as the 111 did

    I also like the JSF

A bureaucratically bloated militaristic boondoggle, hatched from a marketing thought bubble of the military industrial complex. The stealth is BS - someone will build a better radar. If the avionics are so good, stick them on a better, faster platform, like the Eurofighter.

Why? It's what we should have bought.
    JSF is a joke.

I spent some time with Ian McLachlan (ex defence minister) after he retired and apparently there were a lot of people wanting to buy the F-22, but the cost was just too high.

They still refuel from the boom as well (you can see it tucked up in the back in the pic). Pretty sure I've seen pics of three aircraft being refuelled at once (one on the boom and two on wing tanks).

I also had a, err, lay in a KC-135 boom position in Darwin circa 1982. Not in flight though.

History repeats, just like the French Submarines ordered

Did/nt need, and should have gone with the Mitsubishi if pushed, cancelled to punish Abbott.

Who are we protecting ourselves from?

Its ok, we are ALL paying big-time for this, total piss-off how GovCo burns OUR money on useless s/hit
