When the car appeared at the 1973 LA auto show (prior to the R & T article and 1973 Porsche Parade), it had Alan Johnson decals on the hood and also pinstriping on the hood and fenders.

This TC is listed at 66,000 euros which these days is only $79k US. Why so cheap? Can anyone translate the German ad?

I believe it is textured.

 

This was a good deal...I don't think too many of these survived.

Thanks. I forgot to say its a 1976 turbo Carrera. Does everyone think that it should be textured? You see plenty that aren't!

 

I am quite sure that '76 is not textured. '75 for sure is not. But I do not know when Porsche started with it.

 

I believe all 3-ltr Turbos had textured front valences. It's subtle but you can see it in period photos.

 

I know the '76 and on did. Unsure about previous years.

 

Exterior chrome trim as option. I know this was a option but seems to be a supremely low number of 930s had this. I have only ever seen one. It was silver in color/cancan interior with chrome window frames and a 77. However I remember this 930 was equipped with a hand throttle.

 

Weren't all the 3.0 liter cars equipped with a hand throttle? My 77 was and most I have seen seemed to be so I just assumed they all were?

Nice photo Rich. This appears to be during assembly...for those doing "concours restorations" notice how many scratches, marks and imperfections are on the black piping before the engine was even installed in the car.

 

This seems to be an pre-production or very early engine. The air filter housing
is different, there is a welded stud on the black piping near the turbo, and other details
are different from series 930/50 engines. I see at least three more differences.

 

Great photo Rich, I can stare at it for 20 minutes. The wastegate to exhaust fitment looks different too. Did the '75s (50) have a different routing system from the 51/52/53/ motors. I know they changed the angle to of the wastegate to a more vertical stance but looking at this photo I'm trying to figure out where it's going, especially on his left hand..
