I had a long chat with the chief designer at the NYC preview and he was cagey about details on the spider. The doors will obviously be totally different, but the overall design itself will have to be significantly different as well due to the new monocage. Monsieur Yoge's comments are spot on. Cars are for driving, not wealth management... and one thing I've noticed is that McLaren owners do tend to drive their cars. When mine showed up I immediately headed out on a two month, 12,000 mile road trip. The only issue I had was worn out hydraulic accumulators, which was a simple warranty fix that didn't affect the car other than to make the ride slightly stiffer when in normal mode. Without a doubt mine has been the best car I've ever driven, so I can't wait to see what McLaren comes up with for the spider version of the 720S.
Can't get it in body color as of right now since the C-pillars are glass. Maybe the will make some sort of solid piece you can replace it with via MSO, though it would seem unlikely at this point.
3 seconds slower than 918 from 0-300 kph. Still insanely quick. Just for reference 0-212 mph in 21 seconds would be much much quicker than your P1. I imagine the P1 does 0-200 mph in about 21-22 seconds.
In one of the vids I saw MC tire markings anybody know what thats about? Yeah when I heard that I thought it was insane, but 186 makes more sense
Certainly not a new thing - you should find those markings on the tires fitted to your current McLarens. http://www.tirebusiness.com/article/20130306/NEWS/130309933/pirelli-autographs-prestige-oe-tires >8^) ER
Not possible - Spider will have regular doors - Very smart thinking on McLaren's part This way the coupe can be a very unique car and hold value better than previous ones - IMO
I hear these are new compounds. P-Zeros with the same lateral grip as trofeos. New trofeos coming by year end.
Yes, I have a feeling the gripes about competitiveness with the Michelin's Pilot Sport line should go away if that proves correct, but again they also have a new tire this year. >8^) ER
Nope. This was the top of their game. V12, manual, 3 seater, unbelievably fast even by today's standards -- and just plan gorgeous. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have to agree with Mayor here. 720 Front end looks like a motorboat or a hovercraft. The nice thing about great shapes, you dont have to get used to them, they are simply just great. Such was the modern peak with ferrari on the 458. P1 never looked as good in pics as it did in the flesh, si i'll hold my verdict till I see a 720 in the flesh. I still dont understand why Maclren does not just make a modern redo of the F1, its their seminal car. Everyone can say what they want about paddles and turbos, cars are for driving fun.
Because some marketing nit wit says you can't sell them. Just like some aero engineering nit wit says the car has to have ugly fins and holes in it everywhere to gain 1 mph top speed or 0.0001 extra lateral G force
How do we know that? Car hasn't been reviewed yet...once that happens then we will have better insight. Until then it's look how nice and how much horsepower.
Meh! HP is just a game today. They crank up the boost and do some software tweeks. They all play the same games now with turbo charging.
I agree...hence why we need a REAL review from multiple car press folks with their opinions. We also need this this run on the track by pros so we can see how 'impressive' it is. Nürburgring anyone? Until then...just marketing (albeit after that will be marketing as well). Sorry, but that's the truth.
It's more horsepower than the 650 but 0-60 is the same. I know 0-60 don't mean much but we are at a point where a 150k cheaper 570 is similar 0-60. It's gotta be more than speed today.
I'm pretty sure the 720s will knock the socks off everything in its price rance. The 675LT already does that and this is an evolution of that platform. I don't need 10 out of 10 journalists to tell me that. BTW, they are remaking the F1 and no they wouldn't be able to sell enough of them to justify mass production. Have you ever climbed into an F1? Everyone (well mostly old lazy haters) *****es about how hard it is to get into a 650S I guarantee you they wouldn't be able to climb half way into an F1.
reviews will be out shortly im sure. in mean time I love its looks and believe the suspension, brakes, engine, trans, etc will all be of equal spec. only thing I didn't like about the 12c and 650 was style and now that's fixed
