Just out of curiosity, how much do you think it would cost to have a coach builder redo the rear end of the 812 to look more like the 599? Is that sort of thing an option with the tailor made program, or does that only allow you to mess around with interior specs and paint? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is very nice shot! I`ve made comparison of stock 812 and one with softer lines and a bit cleaner look: https://i.imgbox.com/Pod8Xze3.jpg
For the first time I agree. As to what it would cost to remake the rear, I suspect a great deal primarily due to balancing the aero. Currently I would like to do it but maybe a Novitec or aftermarket company might consider something?
Would love to see how you would go about selling your hybrid 812! Most likely you would have to restore everything back to its original form.
I think that if you don´t change the diffuser and the upper spoiler, just the bumper and the twin rear lights, it wouldn´t cost a lot as the changes would be only aesthetical and the aero bits would remain unchanged. But if you go through Special Projects they´d charge an absurd ammount of money just for that.
Cleaner is better as basically the rear half is back to F12b. Shows that they could have got a way with far less aero.
Clearly you don't understand how much better my version would look than stock. It would sell itself! Besides, I'm boring. For the money (or thereabouts) I'm more interested for a 365GT 2+2 or GTC/4, both of which blow the 812 out of the water in terms of design. However, in all seriousness, if I had gobs of money and wanted a modern car I'd be tempted to try a coachbuilt 812. I like most of the car very much. Fix the rear end and put some nice seats and Vaulmol hides in the interior, and you could have a stunning car that you might never want to sell!
Someone should alert Novitec. Based on the general reaction to the rear end, they could probably make some money off of a standardised aftermarket kit to redo the rear.
Respectfully disagree. It is funny how subjective design is. Similiar to debating blonds vs. brunettes with my old college roommates. I think the F12 is the worst rear end design that I've seen. Just too complicated. It is why I kept my 599 instead of upgrading. Now with the 812, I like it. I'll buy one, and keep the 599 for good measure. I don't think there is a right vs. wrong here, just different opinions.
Well, we both agree on the 599. For me that's the best looking modern Ferrari. I like it much better than the F12 or the 812. But you have/will have the benefit of the ownership experience. I'm only chiming in from the sidelines.
I can't post pix, over my limit. Can someone post a side-by-side shot of this picture with a similar grey colored F12...for comparison purposes. I think it will be interesting to see.
Well done! Fantastic shot and I think it shows what they are going for with the design. I think it works at this view. I also think design seems to get more complicated over time and my opinion is they walked right up to the edge in terms of having too many lines. I don't think they fell off the cliff. I suspect this is more of a Special Projects type of request and I don't know, but I think you are talking 7 figures. But probably doable. Remember they did the F12 TRS and the SP America... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ff-gtc4lusso-f12-812s/452048-long-awaited-sp-america.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ff-gtc4lusso-f12-812s/450653-f12-trs.html
I did notice it before and the short films show it creates some turbulence just before the tail. I had wondered, however, if there was some kind of drain in it as it appears to be a very efficient rain gutter with no down spout. Hard to tell yet if there is, in fact, a means to drain rain or hose water.
Motor Box: Geneva Motor Show. Ferrari stand. I met a friend a bit 'special, Flavio Manzoni, head of Ferrari design, a bit' the father of the new 812 Superfast to which I asked the newcomer 812 is simply an evolution of the F12 or is a totally new car? Let's hear what he has to say. Flavio Manzoni: Very briefly, this is not a metamorphosis of F12berlinetta. This is a new car. The heart is a V12 engine that has impressive performance. This is the most powerful and fastest production car ever produced and to achieve performance that is truly impressive, what is important is the joint work that has been done by the Centro Stile Ferrari along with all the engineers, aerodynamic, which allowed to have an integrated approach to the project and a form that should be explained in detail. It's actually a job done chisel, around aerodynamics very advanced and sophisticated, whether active or passive and shape represents the extreme spirit of the car. Then it uses the codes that are different from those used for GTC4Lusso, which instead expresses elegance and care of proportions that is all its own. Here we are talking about a car that embodies a spirit very extreme Ferrari based on performance and driving pleasure. I hope I was helpful Ciao
Yes! Very nice of you to take the time and give us these details. I like the part about the GTC4 Lusso expresses elegance...
It is strange that as much effort seems to have been placed to keep the planes elegant and highly functional and then this crude virtual line at the back with chunky bulges from behind it is strange. It really looks like he thought that rear vertical line / flap echoed the front flap behind the front wheels. Smoothing out that rear corner really brings everything together. At least from the pics I've seen. I really want to see one in person.
