If you flip down the passenger sun visor on your 355 it says to replace the air bag "generator" every ten years. I've never done this, though my 355 is 19 years old (and fortunately has never been in an accident in which the air bags might have deployed). Anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks!

There was a TSB lengthening the time. For a company that arrives at every service interval for the benefit of the dealer network that seems kind of odd huh?

Yeah I wish the car hadn't come with airbags in the first place.

As for the 10 year thing its a chemical explosion most likely it required an experation date but most likely it was to cover the manufactures ass, but it seems old airbag systems that are tested by NHTSB still work as advertised, even some 1970s chevy that was one of the first 1000 equiped with bags, they still worked when the car was crash tested and they were around 40 years old.

I don't think anyone does this, and there have been no safety incidents suggesting that people should do it ASAP.

The whole Takata scandal is probably the most dangerous airbag issue so far.

There was a concern about the airbag itself being tightly folded for a long time and possibly the integrity of the bag itself suffering from it. Experience has shown it not to be a problem so the date was lengthened.

Like I said, it really blows out of the water stupid, uninformed claims Ferrari sets service schedules for the benefit of the dealer network.

    I don't see how, given we've established it's a non-issue.

I know where I'd rather be in the event of an accident.

I was told a couple years ago at the local dealer that all the 355 air bags in inventory at FNA are aged out, as they were made when the cars were in production...no newer ones have been produced.

Air bag ECU's which are prone to failure have been NLA for some time. TRW and Ferrari have no intention of changing that situation.

The WSM and owners manual says to have the wheels x-rayed every 10 years, too.
I took my car to FoH and they had never heard of anyone x-raying their wheels.

On the other hand, when I had my wheels restored last year, two of them had serious cracks in them and had to be replaced.

Which manual and what page? I have never heard that and grabbed a 355 owners manual and went through page by page and there was zero mention of that.

I just reviewed the WSM and while there are several pages about proper refinishing, I also saw nothing about X Rays every 10 years.

I had 20 year old "made-in- America" mags on a Bobsy racecar X-rayed. I think there were 2 out of 6 that passed the test. The others looked good on the outside, but were full of cancer.
