Ok, I am new to Ferrari and 348s, I got my 348 about 2 months ago. I am trying to clean up the engine lights before really driving the car. I really do not like driving any car with warning lights on
When I got the car it had the engine 1-4 light on and smelled very rich (smokes at start up), code 4112 1211 1212 and 1121. So I replaced both o2, replace phase sensor (broken plug). 1-4 light back and smelled very rich still.
1-4 light back (1211 and 1212) and smelled very rich still. Swap MAF.
1-4 light back and smelled very rich still. I replace spark plugs (old Champions look dirty). Plug in cylinder one goes bad (dirty) after 1st drive.
1-4 light back on 1211 and 1212. Swap spark plug wire from 1 and 8 and replace coils (both)
1-4 light back on 1211 and 1212 and now 4112 and slow down light (cat red). Pull cats (clean out)
1-4 light back on 1211 and 1212 replace 8 fuel injectors, new cylinder 1 spark plug and new o2 sensor (after hot cat)
1-4 light back on 1211 and 1212. Plug one is still getting dirty. I put a timing light on plug wire 1 and get sporadic lighting. I hold the throttle open and timing light clean up and I can get the 1-4 light to go off at higher RPM but back on when slowed to idle. Pull the plug and it is dirty but looks better than other time when pulled.

Ok, last time ran the car hard (RPM) in driveway with light going off and on (see above). So this weekend I was going to change both temp sensors and do a compression test (had to order new size tester). The 1st step to changing the temp sensors is taking off the air box.

The new part, I found 2 lines of foam in both sides for throttle body to the MAF.

Has my problem been someone put too much oil in the car and it is coming out the intake?

It kinda looks like coolant and oil mixture. Maybe do a cooling system pressure test with all the spark plugs out. If the tester loses pressure, you can crank it over and see if any coolant comes out of one or more cylinders.

Agreed. Time for a coolant system pressure check and compression test. Did you have a PPI with compression test done before you bought the car?

What's the oil look like. How about the coolant?

Hopefully it's that simple (too much oil).

Here is what I see the “foam” is up to the throttle body, down the hose to the MAF, but not going thru the MAF. It is coming up from the oil tank (top outlet) thru the hose (very foamy) to the tee and then into the 2 air hose (throttle/MAF). The coolant level looks good (think). I believe this foam (mayonnaise) is not oil/coolant but oil/fuel (wishful thinking maybe?). I just do not know?

Just clean it up and press on with more testing after the temp sensor change. But make sure you get a good reset on the engine ECUs.

Keep in mind (from the My348 website):
