I agree with you! That's why I'm going to the Geneva Motor Show next week to see the 812 Superfast and 720S in person. When both cars were presented to the public I didn't liked the front design at the beginning. But after I saw more and more pictures about both cars I like the front of them more then before. But to convince myself 100% I have to see these cars in person. I'm very excited!

I don't even know if I like the 812 and I have a spot with my dealer! That's because I am pretty sure it will grow on me.

    Thanks for the writeup!

One small but interesting point on the interior center bridge. I was also worried maybe they've decided its cheaper to make the buttons face straight ahead, thus no differentiation between LHD and RHD models. So I went back to the pictures I took of the F12berlinetta demonstrator Ferrari sent to the dealers here in the USA. It was not a US car. It too featured a central bridge with the buttons facing straight ahead. Yet, the production F12 features the buttons angled toward the driver.... this might be the case here as well....

I have also given thought to keeping my F12b and maybe adding the GTC4 instead of the 812 if I don't warm up to it....

Which car wears red better? The F12 or the 812?

(A true Ferrari always looks great in red!)

I don't like how the climate control is designed and placed. It feels like it comes from a different car manufacturer. When you look at the pictures of the cabin it's looks great, like it's a part of the instrument panel. But when you sit in the and have a lower sight angle of the center panel. The hole control is just a big piece in center that doesn't know where it belongs.
And the knobs that have the design of a cone. To me it screams to much that "look at me am a cool knob" rather then a more subtle knob that have a purpose.

That's my personal aspect of it, not the end of the world...

But I really like how they composed the interior colors of the red car. With all the carbon and red stitches.

It bothers me that at $350K plus these new Ferrari's have substandard materials and workmanship on the interiors, almost requiring the customer to select costly upgrades to bring them up to par. Are they kidding?? At these prices that is absurd IMO!!

Now I realize that some customers may not care or are more accepting, but for me I'd rather just save the money and get an older model with higher quality.

Standard F12 is looking better all the time......

    Best.

Agreed, I really don't understand the criticism this car is getting. The 812S may lack the simple elegance of the f12 but to my eyes it remains a very impressive looking machine.
In the end one cannot account for personal opinions (I mean there are those out there calling McLarens latest offering beautiful, which is mystifying to me) - to each their own I guess.

Yes, they do it because they can , and have been getting away with it. Per the options...I've been griping about the carbon fiber aspect for years. Ferrari overcharges a ridiculous amount for 'generic' level OEM carbon packages. Ferrari has been able to make a killing in the 'cosmetic' carbon fiber options game.

    Great first hand observations.

I have a couple of thoughts.

Regarding the criticism of the interior trim looking cheap. Or more to the point being intentially designed to make one want to upgrade to more expensive trim parts.

I don't think that was the design goal. The designers want to create something new which will set the new model apart from the old. They also try to tie in design cues from the exterior and echo them elsewhere on the car, such as the interior.

So we have different trim material in the 812 than the F12. Some will prefer one over the other. Thats natural.

There was a post about what a for Ferrari representative told an F12 owner who had spent all afternoon or the better part of three hours going over and agonizing over the new 812 at the stand.

Perhaps the motivation behind the Ferrari representative suggesting to hold on to the last Pininfarina designed V12 was from the perspective of seeing things from brighter side.

If you havent already gotten your order for the 812, it is probably going to be a bit of a wait, depending on your market.

Nevermind that the F12 is a great car. If you own one, you know that already.

Ferrari wants owners to be happy. Ferrari also understands the psychology of buyers. Buyers agonize over if chose they chose the right color, options or model. All of us want to feel we own something which is the best, or more rare and valuable than the other choices.

Never feel too sorry for a man who owns a Ferrari, or a jet. :)

I was on the stand today and all I can say is woah! This car makes so much more sense in person. I love it and can't wait to spec it. Personally I preferred the red car to the grey although I'm not sure on the red itself. I will be back on the stand tomorrow so if anyone wants anything asked or pics of anything in particular I'll be spending a while on it tomorrow so just let me know.

    Cheers

Finally got to see the car at the Geneva show earlier today. It looks better in real life than in the photos, that's for sure. From a front/side angle, it looks quite good. The rear remains very fuzzy with lack of coherence. The vent on top of the rear wheel arch doesn't gel very much with the rest of the lines. The rear quarter light looks horrible - but don't understand why they did it.

Inside (the grey car), I was positively surprised and did not feel the materials were much worse than the F12. I found the interior overall being quite similar to the F12 - certainly when compared to the exterior design (noted that the cruise control seems to be a more "standard" layout).

Discussed with my long-term swiss dealer who has already taken 35 orders for the 812 - first deliveries in Dec, so seems to be a long wait for most customers. On the design, his clients seem split in the middle. Half of them order the 812, the other half preferring the F12 - so seems very much like us in this forum :).... Me, I'll happily keep my F12... and will enjoy the sight of the 812 when you hit the road!

The delayed delivery will continue to keep up the second hand prices for quite some time. An early F12 with 100,000 kms was sold for CHF185k!!!! Great to see these cars getting plenty of exercise!

Just keen on your view of the red "accents" on the dash (the instrument cluster surround and under the vents in the centre) and whether you think its "over the top"

Looked cheap to me (being polite...). The grey car's interior much more stylish.
