Post 1 Jan 1989 build needs full compliance ( SEVS scheme).
    https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/quiz/used-manufactured.aspx

But there is no one under the RAWS scheme who can comply a 328.
Could be brought in as a personal import if you owned it overseas for a year.

Or sell it in the UK, much better idea.

So do we know the build date? My 328GTB was a MY89, but 88 build date, luckily.

....and he may turn up here as he is a member.
The car is a Feb '89 build and Mark is under the impression that it's a 25 year old entry.

I had a quick look at Mike's post/link and it seems pretty clear it's a pre Jan '89 deal.

    Hi

The car actually belongs to me .There are some options to have it delivered to Australia . It can be imported under the personal import scheme currently in place , yes you must own it for over a year . So in theory , I can import it right away .

But as the legislation is changing at the close of this year , cars 25 years an older will be able to brought in unhindered as cars made pre 89 currently are .

I thought that gives any prospective buyers time to get around to seeing car located overseas , and shipping is quite a few months door to door .

    https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/mv_standards_act/files/MVSA_Info_Sheet_4_Concessional_Imports.pdf

However there is even an allowance to bring a car in right away :

    https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/import_options/pre1989scheme.aspx

So there a few options there . Anyone interested can Pm me . There are posts relating to car here also.

    Cheers, Marco

That's interesting. Good luck with the sale.

So, after this year cars up to re '92 / '93 would be eligible.

Were Ferrari making any decent cars around then? :p

It's not quite that simple, the new scheme does not start until 2018 and the rules regarding eligibility have not been finalized:

    https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/mv_standards_act/

Despite the fact that you may be able to import the car next year, the rules regarding registration might vary from state to state and have not been sorted out:

"Vehicles imported through the older vehicles stream may be required to be modified in order to be registered by State and Territory authorities. The Australian Government will work with State and Territory regulators to establish appropriate requirements for these vehicles"

The state requirements will most likely require the usual ADR compliance stuff like seatbelts, new catalytic converters, perhaps emission's testing, mirrors & possibly headlights.

The only way the car can be imported to Australia at the moment is as a personal import, but there are some rules around that too:

    https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/import_options/pis.aspx

"Applicants must have lived in a foreign country (or several foreign countries) throughout a qualifying period of 12 months prior to arriving in Australia. Applicants must now intend to become an Australian permanent resident and remain in Australia indefinitely. Temporary visitors such as foreign tourists, posted diplomatic personnel and posted military personnel are not eligible under this option."

If someone buys is overseas and then imports it themselves they are also liable for LCT, GST and duty.

Best way for you to currently sell it in Australia is to import it as a personal import first, then sell it.
