Hope you enjoy the photos. Great stuff to see as the series was just getting started in the US.

Special thanks to Dr Stephen Earle for access to these images.

Probably because the owners had purchased their cars prior to the series being announced and they were thinking wind in the hair. :) Then the series was announced and they said let's give it a go with what we have.

Great photos and great memories, thank you for posting. What an amazing year in primitive equipment but it was still super fun to wheel those cars.

Yes, I have all the 348 challenge serial numbers that raced in the NA series. I am trying to locate 6 or 7 from the European series so I can publish the full set worldwide. It's mainly those Italians who are not as complete with records. :D

Very cool Robb. Any idea of the laptimes? When I raced my 348 on that track I was a newbie racer and was 1:33xx at WSIR and there was more time to be found.

Yes Carl - Here you go:

    1993 Willow Springs Dec 11-12

Fastest Lap 1:37.139 in Qualifying by Peter Sachs

Looks like you are far ahead if track alignment is same. Minimum weights on their cars were likely heavier than yours. Although we know you have mad skills... :D

Wow! It must have been the track and weather conditions. I was not challenge legal. I had a big wing and splitter, about 2800lbs, big brake ducts and modern pad compound, and different springs/revalved stock shocks, lightened flywheel. That all could be 4 seconds...

Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but I remember I used to get those old Ferrari World magazines and they showed the 328s racing in the Europe w/ the 348 Challenge Series, did they allow the 328 to race the first year of the NA Challenge? I vaguely remember not seeing them, but I figure one of you guys would know for sure.

There were only 348 challenge cars racing in the "challenge series" worldwide.

There may have been exhibition races, historic races, or other series in the U.K. I don't have my mags handy as I'm on the road. But I do remember seeing articles and updates with various cars tracking at the same time but remember it as a different series.

There have been different race events organized by the FOC of GB. That's, as Robb mentionend, what you most probably remember.
