You are right on all those points, but the F12 had a similar brief and description and no way would Ferrari have spent extra or the same on the leather to save just one kilo, as I said, that is for the VS. Call me old fashioned but I am utterly convinced this is a cost saving exercise, like much else on the interior. It started on the Lusso and was noticeable the moment I sat in the car, and it is carrying on with the Superfast, again immediately noticeable. Various factory workers are also aware of this drop in quality. I agree the quality of the leather is all about barbed wire fences etc, but the thinner leather does just make the interior feel 'thin' as I posted at the time and that is the problem. As I said, this car is a Hyper GT not a tdf and the cabin should have that air of quality, like the F12, which to my mind is lacking. I don't believe for a moment they took that risk on a Hyper GT to save one kilo, surely immaterial.
For scratching that exotic car itch I will drive my Ferrari sportscars and keep my F12...but I suspect going forward when I want a beautifully executed tailored luxury "GT" type car I will get a Rolls Royce Wraith.
All I am after is the same quality as the F12. that passed muster with everyone and there was no cabin quality debate, and yet it was and is, a truly epic sport scar/GT. I really don't want a Rolls!
The CF colour options were available at the Geneva stand with the configurator. They even had the various coulors available as small mock ups. The dealer config is also available in various countries as of yesterday. I received my spec as a PDF which is too big to upload. If memoirie served me well it's balck, blue, red and green in both matt and regular CF as an option. No talk about pricing yet. Agree that weight savings on the leather is of course a bogus point Ferrari wants to make. It's also clearly obvious that they encourage you to spec the car to the max. The configurator does offer a whole lot of various options from the getgo without going straight to TM. I'd say they are offering all buyers a TM Light version to all buyers. The actual TM guide is also available now through dealers. But like I also mentioned, to me the interior does feel like a big step up from the F12. I always felt like the F12 had a poorly designed and executed interior. Which is why I went aftermarket to get something truly unique. The 812 to me has a much better designed interior cabin with a much nicer finish. I did not feel the thickness of the leather though, but I did feel like everything was better thought off. More German-like for lack of a better word!
Just compare the center bridge. Knock on it in a F12 and you feel the quality and solidness. Unfortunately in the 812 the response of knocking on it is like a plastic tube... It may be the same materialIt in both but with a different internal design to make the F12 part feel more premium. This is as important as the weight argument. I was hoping on getting the feeling of "wow" that's premium when I sat in it. But it way be solved by ticking all the CF options there is [emoji6]
Yep, it seems CF is the only way to go for the cabin.... That metallic-look does look so darn cheap, it's hideous.
As several people mentioned, IMO it is intentional, enticing you to tailor it to your liking with the obvious consequence ...
And that's the problem, I've already got an Audi! As to the centre stalk, if you feel round the back it's a two piece injections-yuk.i don't remember it ever being this in the F12, I recall metal or at least it felt thus. I don't see how anyone can say this is a higher quality cabin than the F12, it's simply not. It may or may not be a better design but it's a cheaper one.
The stalk in the F12 definitely feels cold to the touch so i'm fairly sure it's metal. At Geneva the 812 stalk felt plastic but I wasn't sure as the stand was very warm. I didn't feel the back but sounds like we have to fear the worst. There is a small possibility that the show car had a pre-production 3D printed plastic part used for size approval but unlikely. I didn't feel the stalk in the Lusso, but as it looks like the same part as the 812 can any Lusso owners confirm?
Ferrari excels at separating customs from their money. And it looks like they have found another source of revenue, pushing every customer to upgrade the interior. -F
The more I've looked upon the photos of the 812, the more I have begun to appreciate most of the exterior. But unfortunately, and discussions of material quality aside, the more I do not like the look of the interior. I think the GTC4 is a nicer interior actually. It looks to my eyes like they were thinking of a central screen ala the GTC4 but decided at the last minute to leave it off. Also if you look closely, you will see the center bridge, which appears to go down the center of the car, does line up with the rear view mirror, but does not line up with the center stitching on the dash. This misalignment is glaring to my eyes. The shapes of the instrument binnacle and the fitments around the vents have taken on a Germanic tone, and the layering of the elements on the dash, I hate to say it, it has taken on a Japanese tone- have you ever noticed how they layer on more items on top of other items? Anyway, I always thought the F12 interior to be very sporty, classy and sophisticated. That was inspiring to me. The 812 interior, at least so far from all the photos, its hurting me to say this, I just don't like it. I am hoping seeing in person plus time will prove my initial impressions wrong. I think you're right and I also hate to admit this, but when my spot comes up, I'd order the car and then spec a very nice and expensive interior that addresses my concerns. I just had to make my little rant above.
We're totally f'd as that's all they are doing.....just selling us a "shell" that we must fit-out to a standard that suites us individually.....therefore the base price being the close to its "predecessor" becomes almost immaterial as we spend at least 100k or more on the car - as I did on my GTC4L- to get it where we want it...had to even pay for leather on the back of the seats....that's funny!! Spec'ing GTC4L was only an appetiser for how badly, or should I say "properly", we are going to get ****ed on 812SF.... And then we come back for more!!!!
I could not be seen in a Rolls, its funny how in its home market it has such a bad image, almost embarrassing to be seen in.
Don't you think it's funny that in a brutally competitive world a company can be "behind" with anything, just ridiculous. How much harder must it be running Jaguar Land Rover say than Ferrari, and still behind. Some 70th cars are coming in 2018 nearly two years after allocated. And clients could not change the spec.
Absolutely. Ferrari was just scratching the surface with shields and wheels. Then they moved on to special paint and carbon inserts. Now they have made it so every square inch of the car, the interior especially can be (has to be) spec'ed out. Some people call it frustrating. I call it genius. And quite typical for the marque. They are the master at this. It's not a bad problem to have, it's a sign of the popularity of the product. However, they need to get a handle on this. They are driving customers away to other brands or to the secondary market (which of course they play in as well). But yeah, they need to ramp up production somehow. Maybe they can figure out how to add another V12 line or add more paint capability or whatever. Not sure where the bottleneck is but they really need to reduce delivery times. By like a year! -F
To some but not to me. Its a "bahnstormer" and having used the F12 in "anger" on a few mountain passes mine will certainly be specked as such i.e. not a classic GT
Agreed on the Germanic side - I'm turned off by most of their cars now as they're pretty similar and bland from an interior perspective. Absolutely no sense of occasion in any of them. As to the 812 interior - I generally prefer the look of the 812 over the F12. Not sure if materials are cheaper or not but it seems there's a definite sense from F12 owners that perceived quality is different. For a lot of drivers coming into the 812 that won't be a factor at all. For those coming from an F12 or who are more interested in a personalised car then it seems Ferrari will be licking it's lips as the option boxes get ticked.
Thank you As I have been saying since the GTC4 demo day. They want to keep MSRP low like Porsche does and then rely on upgrades. It's more corporate and no Ferrari should ever be made with a cheap spec.
It doesn't take a statistician to conclude that this car has issues with the aesthetics of the interior and exterior. Strange to read so much concern about quality and design with the flagship model compared to the last four years and two prior releases. I feel confident that if the 812 came before the F12, and the F12 was just released, the industry would be raging about how Ferrari has fixed all their mistakes. It certainly won't help the 812's desirability any further if the performance isn't as flawless as expected.
