Not necessarily...big issue in any Asian market is the tax (first registration) payable... can vary the 'drive away' price by 100% depending on jurisdiction... I suspect this is what came into play for this car.

Transfer of Ownership in malaysia costs about 80 AUD . This car has been unregistered for almost a decade , so an inspection has to be done . The government has a mobile team that comes to car , where all the correct documents must be produced . The charge for the service is about 40 aud. then the first years registration must be paid , about 1000 aud and insurance basic third party , about 600 aud Im not sure what country it is that charges another 100% in taxes . in malaysia there ZERO stamp duty payable on second hand car transactions . Same for Indonesia and Vietnam. It would be great to hear what details you have on those countries
