I guess it's news because they will meet the latest emissions requirements?

I had a street legal fuel injected KTM 2 stroke 3 years ago. It was 2013 enduro model. Great engine, jokingly referred to as a 3 stroke because of the good low end.

I still have a two-stroke motocross bike. Love the sound.

Is one of the benefits of a two stroke not its firing every second as opposed to 4th stroke meaning more power for a given displacement and a lot more Tq.

Actually, the benefit is wringing the bike's neck and not having to worry about valves. Although, don't count on any engine braking.

Good stuff. I just got rid of my vintage Elsinores, and grew up on various 2-strokes. Modern 2-strokes are complete monsters when tweaked properly.

Yamaha still makes a 250 cc two stroke. They never stopped.

A two stroke fires every time the piston comes up versus every other time and indeed makes more power this way per volume. Other benefits are no engine oil or oil filter, lighter weight due to no cams and associated hardware, easier maintenance and lower cost. Four strokes may need twice the CCs to compete with two strokes but the fuel injected four strokes seem to have more torque and handle completely differently. They hook up instantly as opposed to the crazy and quite enjoyable wheel spin of a two stroke. The two stroke requires you keep the bike on a much narrower power band to keep the power from falling off. Four strokes make power everywhere.

The big disadvantage of a two stroke is re-jetting carburetors, mixing fuel and dealing with the dribble of unburned oil in the muffler packing. Fuel injection would eliminate jetting but you would still have to deal with oil for the gas although it looks like the bike would do the mixing.

Just like outboards. We still run an Etec 2stroke. To switch to a four stroke, it would add over 200lbs to the transom, with neglible fuel savings.
Grew up riding both 2 and 4 strokes, and each have their place. Just normal trail cruising, a 4 stroke wins. But if you want the to go fast, hard to beat that powerband.

I had a RZed 500 once. Once moving, you started upshifting as fast as you could. Downshifting didn't make one bit of difference.

I have a buddy that was a Defensive Lineman for the Rams that rides a KX500. When it hits the powerband its like lighting a rocket. I witnessed him use a rider that had tipped over in a gully during a hare scramble as a ramp to jump the bike 10 feet in the air while the guy was still sitting on his bike.
