Thanks FBB, thought I'd seen some before but not of the glass; car is great. I looked at doing something for my project but I think the difference all round for an insuarable street legal 'plastic' was about 10kg. All above CoG, but the limited cash seemed better spent elsewhere.... for now.

Everyone has their head in the sand but you aren't acknowledging a difference between 2 different types of batteries? Not saying it's impervious to problems but from what I can tell LFP batteries are not anywhere close to a potential problem as lithium ion. Even lead acid can explode.

"The major differences between LFP batteries and ordinary lithium batteries are that LFP batteries do not have safety concerns such as overheating and explosion, that they have 4 to 5 times longer cycle lifetimes than the lithium batteries 8 to 10 times higher discharge power and 30 to 50% less weight."

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_iron_phosphate

As for corner balance, yes I understand you can mess it up but I think you would have to be trying pretty hard.

The biggest change that will be made to one corner will be the battery (which doesn't look like it will hurt), otherwise differences will be equal side to side.

I thought part of the reason they located the battery up front was to even up the weight distribution.

If you lessen that or put the battery somewhere else won't you just end up with a 911?

If it's 10lb either way it'd be better lost in the driver's seat than just behind the front wheel.

    1. - Don't know.

    2. No, I'm not converting it to rear engine, keeping it mid engine.

    3. More like 35lbs in front of the front wheel and I don't need to lose any weight.

Following this with interest. I may go CF front bumper on my car - it needs to be replaced as it's cracked underneath and they're cheaper than a factory bumper anyway. I've put the 8lb exhaust on, challenge wheels, planning on seats but I absolutely want to keep the sliders and have them be as low or lower than factory as my head touches the roof with a helmet on as-is.

My goal is to keep my car looking factory and streetable but remove as much weight as possible. I don't see much opportunity in the interior other than seats, to be honest, and anything else will make it not comfortable on the street or make it look blatantly modified. I've been eyeing up the other CF parts available - fenders, trunk, bumpers should shave quite a bit of weight. Hood is aluminum and quite light already, so not sure there'd be enough weight savings to matter going to CF. Lighter battery is in the plans when I need a replacment, will probably remove the air pump during the major.

Any other opportunities while the engine is out?

Sounds like a good plan. Not sure you will be able to get any race seat on sliders to be lower in the car than the stock seats. Maybe but the stock seats are very close to the floor.

When I do the battery I'm going to make an aluminum mount for it.

Also going to do an aluminum rear bumper support as it won't need to be steel with the carbon bumper.

Maybe standard horn instead of air horn?

Ehhh. I can do 53" box jump standing with no step now so I don't like that video anymore.

    Thanks Robb.

Making some progress. Seats are finally in! Didn't drive it yet but feels very comfortable. Took a long time as I had to refinish a lot of the trim parts that had cracked clearcoat. (and order one that was missing).

Cleaned/treated the dash with Gliptone as long as it was out, the seats as well.

Thought about chucking the stereo but I have too much love for the vintage Alpine so it stays :D

    Re the challenge wheels:
Standard 355 wheels are Magnesium too
So there will not be a big saving in the wheels

    348 is a different story

That's a good solution, Jim. And it's reversible. I'm not sure you'll realize any further significant weight reduction with a non-airbag dashboard.

What about a carbon dash? I've seen one online...wonder how much one could save.

Test fit the bumpers today. They fit nice! I was surprised to learn the brake ducts line up and fit as well, no modifications necessary.

I was going to make a new rear bumper support but didn't realize it's not a bolt in part, it's quite extensively welded to the body so I'm going to skip that.

So, this should be the complete list so far-

As mentioned before this is a Canadian car with heavier bumpers.

Stock front bumper weight (no grill or fogs)- 53lbs

    Carbon front bumper- 10lbs

    Stock rear bumper- 45lbs

    Carbon rear- 6lbs

-So, probably save 80lbs from the bumpers once painted.

Wipers- (arms, linkage and motor) 7lbs

    Washer reservoir/pump half filled- 5lbs

    Front trunk liner- 10lbs

    Tool kit- 11lbs

Have not bought it yet but stock battery is 37.4lbs, Liteblox is 4.4lbs so 33lbs there.

    Airbag removal- 11lbs

    Dash support/structure removal 7lbs

    Titanium wheel bolts save 3lbs

Carbon seats with no sliders- save 34lbs

That would all add up to 201lbs.

Should put the car at 2,998lbs for now. I'll see what else I can do.
