Anyone else have one of these floors and suffer from static charges everytime you walk across it? I seem to be the only one suffering. It doesn't affect my wife but its starting to get me down!
Very strange. I've had Racedeck for something like 10 years and never felt any static electricity. I suspect you are picking up the charge from somewhere. Static electricity is the result of electrons being scraped off, so usually you need a surface that will scrape at a fine level (like a moving your hand across a sweater). It doesn't seem likely the (relatively) smooth Racedeck tiles could do that type of scraping, but I guess you never know.
Hello, we use it all the time, never any charge. Hmmm. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You have what is not an uncommon problem. The tech industry deals with this all the time. Use this or similar: ACL Staticide 2001 - General Purpose Staticide - Gallon
It was a nightmare when I was laying it, but thought once it was done it wouldn't affect me....wrong. Even if I lean against my car ramp the static goes through my clothes! As I said, doesn't affect the wife!
What are your typical clothing fabrics, as compared to what the wife wears? Synthetic fabrics seem to create a lot more static than most natural fibers, I find.
There is some more information here -> Race Deck Static electricty - The Garage Journal Board Jorgen, CEO of RaceDeck, is pretty active on Garage Journal. He hasn't seen this be a common problem, but there are definitely several people chiming in that have serious static issues. I only skimmed the thread, but it sounds like spraying with anti-static fixes the problem, so it seems like Scott's recommendation may fix it.
Well I tried the spray. Worked for about 10 days and now its back, this time worse I think! Its driving me nuts!
I only get static problems with my floor when it is cold and dry air in the winter. Yes, it can be a little annoying but well worth the comfort compared to sitting/laying on cold concrete. CC
What's the humidity level inside your garage? I assume it has heat and air? If the air is too dry then maybe add a bit of moisture using a humidifier. But it seems odd suggesting this to someone in the UK.
Are you wearing tennis shoes? I've noticed that different brands tend to generate varying amounts of static electricity, especially on carpets.
Im kind of with you. Im actually quite disappointed with the overall finish, even more gutted about the static, but having just installed 540 ft2, I won't be in any hurry to replace it quite yet. Another £20 just spent on static spray!
I did about 800 SQ feet. Mine did solve an issue of standing water in the winter (it's still there, but under the tiles). But, the finish does not hold up well and the crap that gets between the edges and grates is really bad. I live in a winter area and they use salt and sand on our roads. I'd never do this floor again and at some point I may remove it and do epoxy but moving all my stuff out of the garage for a week is a daunting task. I can certainly see the issue with the grated finish. I didn't think it would look so 'plasticy' and make such a hollow sound when walking on it.
