Oh geez. Not this **** again.

Wonder when it will be $20,000 a year for repairs? :)

Did I miss that part? I didn't hear him say that. He said an engine out service every 3-4 years at a cost of $10k-$15k. Of course a lot of people wait 5 or more years between services and sometimes you can get away with less then $10k, otherwise I found the video to be fairly flattering to the 355 and accurate.

yes.. he said.. 10-15k engine out every 3-4 years..

then he said, " but if youre just taking it to a shop, you want to budget 10-15K every 2-3years".

even if taking it to a shop, that is grossly inaccurate..

I guess I did miss that part.

I'd say 10-15k every 2-3 years might be considered a little high. I figure the minimum I'm going to be able to get away with is about $6.4k to $9.6k every 2-3 years. That includes $2k a year for a major service every 5. My first major was just under $11k including 2 new Fabspeed cats. I'd add a bit to this budget if my car was an F1.

That's the minimum though, I'm going to blow that budget significantly on optional things like stickies, a capristo muffler, a new bypass valve, professional detailing, etc...

I am having my engine out rebuild with belts. Last belt change was in 2009 and 30,000miles ago. Belts were in perfect condition when they were removed. I don't buy the every 3 year belt change. I think it was created by the factory to keep dealer's service shop busy.

People keep stating that the belts looked brand new. Remember, the major service is more than just the belts. If it was only about the belts, then you could go 10 years without a change.

Belts were excellent, no water pump leaks, last major Hill bearings installed so those are good,
These cars are not that delicate. The idea of belt failure in just 36 months just does not make sense or seem to be true. Is the recommendation of how often belts need to be changed from large numbers of owners experiencing belt failures in this time period or on the recommendation of dealers ? I have owned my car 17 years and only now doing my 3rd belt change.

There were some problems from a poor previous rebuild, but as far as what would be covered in the normal engine out belt change , belts, tensioners, bearings, water pump, hoses, water sensors thermostat, there were no problems.
