A Drink With Eddie Irvine, Episode #01 (Eddie Irvine says about Bernie Ecclestone. Calls Ferrari's Australian Grand Prix winner Sebastian Vettel a "spoiled brat". And says Michael Schumacher was "on another level" than Lewis Hamilton & co.)

Right off the bat, he sounds like a brainless loser politically.

Because he was critical of Pres. Bannon, er Trump? Let's keep the political discussions in the thread that's dedicated to them.

Met Eddie at the Canadian GP in '94. A guy asked him how many laps it'd take for someone like him who, after all, had driven a number of HPDE track days, to get an F1 car to lap at a respectable speed, Eddie calmly told the guy that he'd never manage to get the car out of pit lane, as he'd stall a few times and fry the tiny clutch. I LOVED it (and having driven a couple of F1 cars I know what he meant)!

Nice bit of tabloid journalism there! - Not telling the whole story!

Yes he calls Sebastian Vettel a "spoilt brat", but you've failed to mention the fact that he also calls Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and every other F1 driver a "spoilt brat".

He goes on to clarify the remark by saying that to be an F1 driver you have to be a "spoilt brat" and have a bit of arrogance about you, because you have to believe that you are better than any other driver that you're racing against!

Interestingly enough, he admits to being arrogant enough himself to believe he was better than any other driver he came across, with the exceptions of Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher.

Eddie Irvine has always been a bit Marmite - People tend to either love him or hate him.

    Personally, I like him.

He's never been afraid to speak his mind, even if it means not being PC, he doesn't tend to give a s:censored:t as to what anyone else thinks of him, he had the balls to unlap himself against Ayrton Senna (and got grabbed round the throat by Senna after the race for his efforts!), and he was an incredibly loyal No.2 driver t Michael Schumacher during his time at Ferrari.

In the German Grand Prix in 1999, Irvine was partnered at Ferrari by Mika Salo due to Schumacher having been injured at the British Grand Prix.

Salo was all set to win his first ever Grand Prix, and in a Ferrari, but team orders were to rob him of that glory. Salo obediently stepped aside to give the win to Eddie Irvine, and was to never win an F1 race. As a gesture of thanks, after the race Eddie Irvine handed Salo the Winners trophy telling him: "You won this, it's only right you have it!"

To this day, that trophy has pride of place in Salo's home!

Grasp the simple fact that a dictatorship, ANY dictatorship, is a left wing device and you'll never have to hurl stones at others again.

As I said (and others have reiterated), it's best to leave political discussions to the appropriate section of the forum.
And having finished my B.A. (honors) in Political Science at 20 and my J.D. (honors) at 23, I suspect I have at least a rudimentary grasp of such "simple" issues, but I'm sure you know better!

Yep. Can throw Kimi in there as well and DC.

I think Eddie is still a proper playboy though, spends his summers on his boat with models half his age. HERO!

Absolutely. Thing I really like is he was a self made millionaire before he even got to F1 by way of his property investments...so in a way, F1 (and for Ferrari at that!) was just a hobby....

Most of his fortune was acquired thanks to his sister.
She was his manager from day one, arranged sponsorships for him, handled his contracts, etc...
Then she managed his finances, invested wisely his income, and made his fortune.
She is the brain behind his wealth.

Do you know that Eddie Irvine almost didn't make it to F1.
Eddie Jordan offered him a drive, but initially proposed less money than he was earning in Japan. Irvine wasn't too keen to take a pay cut just to drive a F1.

I don't know if Ferrari paid him well, they probably did better than Jordan, but I think his sister negotiated a good retainer for him when Jaguar took him on board.
