It wasn't within the last 24 hours but a week ago I had my first flight in a sea plane. In the Maldives from our resort island to Male city airport. Probably the most fun take off ever, and the landing was much smoother than I had expected. FedEx used to fly those (without floats) to Denver from Mountain Communities. Also, Frontier Airlines flew them... Back in the '70s.
I didn't know it was a Dash 6, I was wondering. Only prop planes I'm used to are the Bombardier Q400's. This was a lot quieter than I was expecting. Fun ride! And a lot better than the 1.5 hr speed boat ride back. I tried getting a pic of the cockpit Image Unavailable, Please Login
Used to fly DH Dash 7's from Denver to Steamboat Springs for work.(Now Bombardier, I think) Sort of a 4 engine Dash 6. Bigger. STOL also.
My last floatplane experience was in a C172 with a Cont.230 flying into Nahmint Lake on Vancouver Island. The pilot was a UAL pilot who wanted to go fishing there. The lake was mirror calm and glassy. I was worried about the landing but h e knew what he was doing and made a controlled steady rate of descent until we touched down. There was no way to tell where the lake surface was but he did it the way it was supposed to be done.
