I'll have to hit you up Roy when I'm ready. I already know of one I'm holding out on purchasing. Chris, I still have to disagree with Joe. DD'a are a dime a dozen compared to FI's. Lol! Also, in regards to finding on at that price. That was the only on for sale in the U.S. aside from John's. Good luck to John and I hope as an honest business owner he gets every penny for what he's asking but the car still went for $345K. That is undisputed. And for anyone like Joe that thinks toasters are worth more, I'll share some details. I'm not going to brag but I know a few people from the factory and some other people everyone is familiar with. Im not naming any names but a certain friend of mine's father was responsible for importing Countaches in the 80's and what a certain individual who is responsible for what Lamborghini is today said to him is that none of these cars ever deserved to have toasters, catalytic converters and what have you that had to be put on these cars to be imported. It was considered a crime by the factory and never appreciated. Same thing was said to me by factory folks. So any car in my opinion with proper Euro bumpers is better than any car with toasters and is definitely more respected than any car ruined with US conforming items.
I actually need one. My 4 slice Toaster made by Black and Decker to broke during my recent move to the MidWest form Hawaii. I will pay top dollar. Maybe Joe can broker the sale. He'll probably refer to buy one in a private sale on craigslist though.
As a business owner I would honestly only pay $345/$400 for the Red/White car. I think that was fair money. Anyone who has any experience with a Countach knows that MOST are not maintained well and especially a car with higher miles. Evans, Driven, Lambo Dealers, etc would pull the engine, etc, etc. I personally was interested in the car sometime ago and was not impressed with the condition of the interior and felt it looked like a tired old Countach that needed love! One that would need $50-100k in work. Who knows? I have had a good amount of interest in our car as it is extremely low miles, 8,000kms and was very well maintained. The proof is in the condition interior and mechanical records. I expect the car to sell somewhere close to our asking. BTW I turned down an offer somewhere in the mid $500k range. My two cents; The Downdraft has always had an odd cult like following... I believe it always will. It was not always my personal favorite but has grown on me. Growing up one day my father had 23 Countach's at his place completing service work for Joe Nastasi. Of all the cars, I will never forget a Blue on Crema 1984 2-Valve European Carb car with no wing he would service. That car has always remained "the one," to me. Not because it was a Downdraft, Sidedraft, Fuel Injected, etc. It made no difference to me then... and now? If that car came along again today... I would pay any amount. I suspect others do the same? That being said, we currently have 2 Fuel Injected cars and the Downdraft. I love them all. And at the end of the day... the ONLY deciding factor is what someone is willing to pay... Lets all get along and agree... ALL Countach's are undervalued...
Lets be honest,as much as i enjoy bickering with Joe, (probably mutual) he is effing full of knowledge, and experience, but as supercar guru says, lets all get along, as much as i enjoy my fulie, i enjoy Joes dd as much,(actually its probably a tad nicer than my car, lets be honest)its freshly restored, mine is not, just back off the DD high horse thing ,promote rhe Countach as The coolest car ever, regardless of variant.
Correction - I said it was "modified", not 'heavily modified'. Stating that a car is modified from its original USA spec if that is the case is not talking the car down, its just stating a fact, and offering full disclosure with an accurate description to a potential client who may not know this.
Correction - I do not think that toasters are worth more, nor did I ever say that. Just because I report the sale of a Fuelie with DOT appendages intact for a strong number does not mean I prefer that look either. One can remain dispassionate, I'm simply reporting the news of what someone paid. You'd have to ask that individual why they paid so much. I suspect it had to do with the low mileage (2,000 miles) and perhaps they collect things that remain as they were originally made, many collectors pay up for that. As regards the Euro bumpers, I agree with you, as do the vast majority of owners, that's why the modifications and Euro-look conversions are done to so many cars. As regards the story you relate about factory personnel's feelings about USA DOT-mandated Countachs, its absolutely true, Ive been told the same thing separately by multiple personnel and the Nuova Lamborghini SpA CEO (1981-1987) himself.
An Apples for Apples comparison would be the Countach 25th Anniversario. The Fuelie 25th is infinitely rarer (@187 cars) than the Downdraft 25th (@470 cars) yet the rarer car does not bring more in the market. Rarer does not always mean more valuable. Its a phenomena you see throughout the car world and identifying this does not mean you are slighting one variant or another.
Confucius says: "If you don't want to have a dog in the fight, don't show up with a dog!" Can we all be nice again. Vic
FI 25th anni most likely pocketbook dictates and based on the market this is what i will be able to afford
Sounds good, Im very fond of them as a means of driving enjoyment, I started a thread on them as a resource, hope it helps: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/lamborghinichat-com-sponsored-cats-exotics/394041-countach-25th-anniversario.html
1988 white over red at Barrett today sold at $215k(not including premium) I'm disappointed I could afford and justify that purchase I will put that in the missed opportunity column

If it was otherwise a good car, the interior can be dealt with. I didn't see the car in person. Perhaps John T did.
Barrett Jackson lot 748 https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1988-LAMBORGHINI-COUNTACH--206303 A couple of corrections: The interior bolsters and seats alone were re-done to non-original specification. The original specification was red leather. This means the car now exists with a mismatched partially new interior and a partially original interior. The correct all-in number is $236,500. This car is a an original USA spec Fuelie, original specification is PPG 2.461.025 Bianco Polo Park/Rosso, currently showing 18,997 kilometers/11,800 miles. The vendor claims the car was recently "restored & painted", but as we know the expression 'restored' is often loosely used. Going forward, re-trimming the entire interior in the original Rosso would be a good idea, so everything matches. Removing the bumpers would not make it heavily modified, just modified, that said, doing this would also make the car much more desirable - that much is universally agreed. I would recommend going all the way with a full Euro conversion including rear panel & side-marker delete. One thing I'd like to mention is that this car has a rare factory application that is kinda cool - single-strake factory side-skirts of which Ive only seen half-a-dozen.
