From the Corvette forum MEH!!! If this is it its amazing that they picked the worst part of the C7 to copy-- the back. The rest is like a weird variation of the C7 with some Ferrari and McLaren tossed in (hello F12!) Its not ugly but it certainly doesn't make me want to shout. After seeing the styling on the pending C7 it was easy to spring for the C6 ZR1. I still haven't adjusted to the current cars taillights. The rest of it is perfect.
That looks like an uglier F430. I would have real interest in a mid- engine corvette, but not if it looks anything like the picture.
I don't think it looks too bad. It needs some help in the back as it just looks like a big rectangle with no other shapes to it. The side scoops are a little derivative, but I guess there's only so much one can do with that...
Looks like a vette but the rendering is so amateur that there is no way it came from a real car company.
+1 That is the worst design detail on the current generation car..which is otherwise very well done. Everything is wrong with the rear view IMHO. Looks like the leftovers from a stillborn Trans Am. Bring back round tail lights and put a pair of exhaust tips on each side where they belong...
This is the problem with the Corvette. Since the Mako Shark concept (which was the last unique shape after the C1 and C2) its always looked like "something else". The C7 looks like the child of the C6 married with a Lambo Gallardo. One would hope that they would finally try something different and unique -- but I feel it will mimic other designs as usual.
I disagree with your first point; the rear half of the car is actually my favorite part, but you know, opinions and all that. I agree with your second point though. For whatever reason, I feel like the lines of the C6 will stand the test of time better than the C7.
Gm like others has a horrible history of getting it wrong. looking tot he positive though. The performance of the current crop of cars is already so extreme that the new mid vette deos not have to beat a 720 on paper to be more than all the car anyone could need or use. Hopefully they get the styling right and don't make the huge error of going all techno like the NSX. Light and exotic like a 720 would have me buying.
No kidding. Remember the 50th anniversary Vette? We're talking about celebrating 50 years of one model. Just think about how cool a brand new C1 would have been. You know, a modern car that looks like Route 66. I'm not holding out much hope here.
Anybody remember the 1967 Astro I concept car? Looks like it was built for a mid-engine. Would not take a whole lot for designers to modernize that concept. See #4 on the link below covering old Corvette concept cars: https://www.corvetteforum.com/how-tos/slideshows/7-coolest-corvette-concept-cars-468423#4-1967-astro-i
What about the wankel powered version in the early 70's that was cancelled late in the development process. I read the engine was going to be placed into an AMC Pacer under licensing as mentioned in Hemmings.
